I'm currently running a set of RPF1's in 17x8 and 17x9 +45 offset with 225's in the front and 255's in the rear and they rub pretty easily in the rear. I am about to switch to another set of wheels in the same size with +40 offset instead and a 225/45/17 in the front and 255/40/17 in the back.

My questions is, what do I need to do to make these fit? Will a rear fender roll be enough or will I need to relocate the rear bumper tab? I don't want to cut into the body if I can avoid it. I am lowered, but not slammed, about a 1 finger gap in the wheel well.

You will need to relocate the tab in addition to the fender roll.

I've heard of guy running lower offsets with a 9" wheel and they didn't relocate the bumper tab? I don't think I'm going to purchase the wheels if I need to cut into the body to make them fit.

It's not a big deal, no more intrusive or visually noticable than a fender roll. The tab sticks out further than the fender lip, so there is no point in rolling if you aren't going to address that tab.

Just for the record you're not really "cutting into the body."

It's more like trimming a sharp edge down behind the bumper, and moving a screw back further. Just make sure that you're rolled as flat as you can be (sometimes this helps alot, the sheet metal back there is thick)

That's a pretty easy fitment, you shouldn't have any real problems.
