Default Any owners switch from 18 inch down to 17 inch?

Hi

I am seriously considering getting 18 wheels for my02, of course like many of you I am concerned about the negative effects of wheels that large. There are lots of posts here which say that large wheels will hurt performance due to increased overall diameter and the added weight of the larger rims.

1. Is it possible to keep the same overall diameter (or get close) to our stock setup, and has anyone had success finding the right tire to achieve this?

I original wanted to purchase the BBS LMs but they seem so much heavier than our stock wheels, so I have narrowed down my choice to getting either the volk LE37T or TE37. I think these only weigh 16 pounds, but the lower profile and wider tires will probably add extra weight. I hope this setup will at least be close to what the stock setup weighs. With bigger rims I would want to change the stance of the car to a slightly lower configuration, and I know there are so many choices of either springs + shock or coilovers, I am just staring to research into this. My main concern lowering the car is rubbing issues, so my next question:

2. With 18 inch rims and the car lowered, has anyone had success with no rubbing issues? If so what suspension are you using?

3. My last question is I noticed several members on our board switching out their 18 down to 17, if you are one why did you decide to do this? I think most switched to the ce28ns, which is around 13 pounds? Was it due to all the negative points mentioned above and if so was it bad enough to switch down?

I would appreciate your input.

after some research done, I finally decided to go for 18 instead of 17(SSR competition 18x8 18x9, 225/40 and 255/35 Pirelli Pzero Nero, Eibach pro kit). i don't think rubbing is an issue unless you get wrong offset or lower too much.

Those wheels are nice too, do you know what is the diameter for the tire you selected? Is it close to stock diameter? I wonder if there is a site where we can find the diameter of all tires manufactured.. that would be useful.
