Default Changing wheels on my all original 2002 AP1

So finally after having clocked 12000 miles on my 2002 AP1 , looks like I'm going to have to replace those S02s. I'm going to miss them

I'm thinking of upgrading my wheels while I'm at it. I've read through countless hours of posts on this forum, made detailed notes and finally understand the complexities of finding a new set of wheels for my s2000!

From what I've learned and searching through the various wheels available I've decided to go for some TSWs.

Specifically I'm looking at ordering the TSW Panorama RF Silver wheels for their clean 5 spoke design. Before I order I just want to run a sanity check on the sizes I've selected so that I have no surprises. I'm planning to stay at stock height.

Front 17 x 7.5 at 45mm offset with Re050 215/45 17
Rear 17 x 9.0 at 63mm offest with Re050 245/40 17

In looking at the fitment guide, the fronts seem to be at the limit. Will these wheels/tires fit without any rubbing on stock height and fenders? By my calculations the fronts will stick out 15mm ( .6 inches ) more than OEM and the rears will stick out 12mm more. What kind of look can I expect with this? Also, the tires (front and rear) are both being stretched out .5 inches from nominal width, but they are still within the manufacturer's specified rim widths. Will this cause any problems? Does anyone have a similar setup to visualize how these type of fitments will look?

This is the first modification I make on my S2000, so I'm being a bit cautious before pulling the trigger and ordering these wheels. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Frank

Sizes look fine. The +45 offset up front might need a slight roll - something with a +55 offset up front will be better if you don't want to modify fenders at all. The rear is fine.

I'd also ditch the RE050 - it's an old tire on an old compound that is overpriced.

I'd look at RE-11A, AD-08R, Rivals, Direzza ZII for a price comparable to or cheaper than those RE050s. The RE-11A or AD-08R will be your best bets for an all around dry grip tires that still does decently well in the wet. Add RS3s to that list if you're considering track performance (all of the other listed tires will do well on track or auto-x as well).

Thanks..

I agree, the RE050s are probably not the best today. I will consider your other suggestions...

You've got me a bit worried on the front offset. The fitment guide states

"Offsets lower than +43 are not recommended on the front because a very narrow tire would need to be used to avoid rubbing.
+48 to +52 offset: 215 tires, 7.0" - 8.0" wide wheel"

I'm planning to use 17x7.5 with 45mm offset and 215 tires so I must be just on the border of acceptability without having to roll fenders. I really want to avoid that, and wheel selections are very skimpy with higher offsets.

Can anyone chime in and confirm if the front wheels I'm planning to use will fit without fender mods if I keep stock height?

I'm not an expert at stock height fitment but I think you will be fine from what other people have reported. If you were to lower at all then I would recommend a fender roll.

it also depends on your intended use, how aggressively you drive, and camber.

On track, i got rubbing on the fender liner up front with the stock AP2v2 wheels with, 225f/255r, on stock suspension with -1.8F/-2.2R camber.

I would upgrade to one of the AP2 wheels - they are affordable and look great, plus you can go 225/255 on the tires. Best change I have made to my car hands down.

Who supplies the AP2 wheels? Is it straight from Honda?

I agree with this, AP2 wheels are the stock wheels on the 2004-2009 Honda S2000. I have the version 1's (2004-2005) a.k.a. ap2v1's. All OEM AP2 wheels are 17x7.5 up front, and 17x8.5 in the rear with an offset around the +60'ish range I think. And also, they look good, especially the AP2 V1's which are among the easiest to find (from my experience).

Another option if going with TSW is getting the Nurburgring wheels, they are reasonably priced and come in higher offsets like the OEM S2000 wheels.

Here's what they look like at stock height:

And with some swift sport springs (subtle drop, but much improved look over stock height and still no need for fender roll at all):

For the record, all OEM AP2 wheels are 17x7 +55 up front (not 7.5"), 17x8.5 +65 in back.

Shouldn't be a problem, might want to run -1 to -1.5 front camber. As mentioned above, taller/wider 225/45-17 fronts might rub, so stick w/ 215s there. I'd run 255/40-17 rears. The fronts will look more "flush" than the rears, btw...

AP2 wheels also a great option as already pointed out.

Another option:
Enkei PF01 17x8 +50 fronts with PF01-SS 17x9 +60 rears.
