Default I'm rim spec stupid. Help

I'm shopping for rims and are interested in a few different ones but from what I know the S has a really weird offset. Whatever that means. I'm going 19's and want to be educated on what I should be looking for. Rim widths and what offset I should be looking for with it. Some of the rims I'm looking at may not work at all on the car and I'm looking at them for no reason. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Here is a good tire and wheel overview. Pay special notice to offset, plus 1 or in this case plus 3 and tire dimension specs.
http://www.talontire.com/tireglossary.html

The original '01-'03 wheel specs.
Front: 16"(diameter) x 6.5"(width), +55(offset)
Rear: 16"x7.5", +65

The offsets are really high, which means the wheel hub is close to the outside of the wheel, so the spokes are near the outside edge of the wheel. I've measured the distance from the top of the OEM wheels to the OUTSIDE of the fender as 25mm front and 35mm back. With some simple math you can figure if the wheels your looking at will stick out. Note that the tires you put on the wheels will likely bluge wider than your wheels. Low offsets will increase the probablity of the tire rubbing the outside fender when cornering hard or going over big bumps. So basically the wider the wheels the bigger offset necessary to prevent that dune buggy look. The tire wells on the car are pretty big and just on this board I've read of 9" wide fronts and 10" wide backs. There are not many wheels with good offsets for the car, so if fitment is important to you, you might have to go with a multipiece custom wheel.

The original '01-'03 tires specs.
Front: 205(width in mm) / 55(sidwall height as % of width) R 16 (wheel diameter in inches)
Rear: 225/50R16 (note that the OEM tires have about the same tread width as typical 245 width tires)

The main thing about tire sizes it to try to get the same outside tire diameter, so that you speedo and odo stay accurate, and try to get around a 0.85-0.9 front to rear tire width ratio to keep the handling more or less the same (with stock suspension settings).

Oh yeah, GO SENS GO

I forgot, you should look for wheels that are hub centric or have adapters that fit the wheel to our hubs. Hub centric wheels put most of the load on the hubs instead of the lug nuts and wheel studs.

You also want wheel with a 5/114.3 lug hole pattern.

These are the specs for the rims I am interested in. Any of this make any sense? Can these work on my S? I'm assuming im going 9" width rear and 8" front. isnt that the typical widths people go safely?

Eh, I don't know man. The 19x7.5 +53 offset might work in the rear, but I don't think you got the offset's for the wider wheels.
You might get away with the +45 in the fronts, but in the rear with 8" or more wheel you might be in trouble... You'd probably have to do some fender rolling. I saw a picture in forum a couple months ago of a guy who did like +45's in the rear and it rubbed a grove into the tire.

I'd just really do some heavy duty checking before buying. I'm very conservative about my car and won't muck with anything that's not proven to work. It could be an expensive mistake.

I'm wondering why 19's though? You have nothing between you and the pavement except a very thing piece of rubber at that size. You hit anything bigger than a pebble and you run the risk of damaging them. Also breaking and excelleration suffer from the added weight, and the ride quality would be... harsh to say the least.

Getting some 17's or 18's and lowering the car might be a better choice.

Heh, where's Jim when you need him.

Well I can tell that wheelmax REFUSED, and I mean flat out REFUSED to sell a wheel for the S2k with +48 offset because of fitment issues. Going to a 19" isn't going to change that.

There are people who run the same size wheel front and back. Its not recommended if your an "aggressive" driver. So you might be able to do the 19x7.5 +48 in front and the 19x7.5 +53 in rear.

You should post a link to these wheels you want so badly man, there maybe wheels that look exactly the same (or awefully close) out there with the correct fitments in 18. For example on my old 2002 ecplise (piece of junk) I had Katana C5 +42. Another guy had Diablo C5 +45. Exact same wheel, even manufactured in the same place. Just a different center cap and offsets.
