Default Is it safe to travel 500mi with spare tire on?

My right rear tire was recently flat after running over a nail, so I switched the front wheel to the rear and placed the spare on the front right. There's a warning on the spare that says you shouldn't travel above 50mph or so, but I'm leaving for home tomorrow morning with a 500 mile trip, and the speed limit is at most 70mph on some roads.

Should I be safe to travel this distance with the spare? Should I stick to 50mph always? I've driven it and it obviously feels a bit off balance compared to when the normal wheels were on.

Buddy, I do not think donuts were made for long distance driving.
Isn't there a WalMart nearby that can open up early in the morn that can get you a set of rears that can get you home at the speed limit of 70?

Get the problem fixed, or take a different vehicle.

Thanks for the replies. I've heard bad stories about Walmart installing tires but I guess I'll give it a try if I don't find another tire store around here.

^^

Then try a Discount Tire, they would more than likely have the tire size you need or be able to fix the flat tire.

I wouldn't recommend it. The ride will be bad and the chances that the tire is dry rotted is good.

For some reason i think that you should only drive about 10 miles on a donut. They are made to get you to the tire shop right after you put it on.

Thanks. Closest shop is around 35 miles away.

I used to change tires at walmart. Just keep an eye on whoever does the work. I can tell you from experience there are crappy installers at every shop and good ones at every shop no matter where you are. you are alot better off going that route than trying to go 500 miles on a spare. Oh, do not go 70 on that spare. Trust me
