Have you tried to get into pharmacy school in chicago yet?
UIC has 400 seats open with nearly 1800 applications.
Your PCATs have to be top notch, and you practically have to blow someone to get in or be a minority.
Downers Grove is hard too and way too expensive.
You'll be lucky to make 65k coming out of school right now.
(Unless you work in some shitty high volume retail pharmacy)

Either way, I'm still going to try to make it in to a top notch school. With just a business/finance degree alone Ill probably be making as much as i do now without a degree.
Also, did i mention that there is also a high demand for pharmacists? The medical field is the highest paying field right now.
I know its going to take some time before I get to where I want to be but at least I'm willing to try. I have spent alot of time thinking about this.
MYSELF = MONEY = MOTIVATION

I hate talking about money.. cuz i don't have much. Most people that go for degrees end up doing something entirely different so keep that in mind. I spoke to a co-worker that has a back ground in medicine and psychology. What does he do now? He works on database for the whole company.
I work as a project engineer but graduated with a masters in architecture.

But what does that all come down to? Everyone has to start somewhere. Without a degree it is hard for a female to do anything. For males, its quite different. Men can do anything. Women need degrees. I dont want an office job for the rest of my life.
Every female I know that never got their degree ended up marrying some rich dude or some bum. I'd like to get my degree just so I can have something to fall back on incase if anything happens.

And two who were unable to get into UIC, despite high GPAs and 4 year degrees.
UIC is a bitch to get into, downers grove is a rippoff but if you want to have 120k in loans you will probably get in.
55-65k is starting pay in hospitals and 65-70k is starting is retail.
Hospitals are starting to outsoruce higher paying positions, and relying on turnover to keep pay down. Give it another 5 years and managers and directors will be outsoruced to agencies.
And more places are getting by with fewer pharmicists and more techs.
Theres not so much a shortage as there is a burnout with pharmacists.
Hospitals are realizing they can get by with less, by getting more hours out of them.
In retail you get paid more, but you are a bitch. Working shit hours, always covering for the bitch whos kids have a cold, and dont have to work because their husbands are rich.
All my friends are miserable.
And they will never tell you that shit is pharmacy shool.
Go sit in on one of the required, meetings prior to enrollment, where they fill an auditorium of 2000 people and tell you how great it is.
Then they hit you with how much it costs to apply, and how much it costs to take the PCATs, and how most people are not accepted first time they apply.
I am just giving you the negative side people dont talk about. I have been through it. You should godamn hands down work as a tech before you even think about it.
