Default laser eye surgery

went in for a consultation yesterday. turns out, i have thin corneas, large pupils, and a high prescription...like a triple negative or something haha. i'm kinda disqualified from LASIK, but i can do PRK, which is what the military only allows its people to use. also, since i have those 3 negatives, i have to do the most expensive one...$2100/eye for custom wavefront PRK w/lifetime enhancements. yow..good thing i signed up for vision insurance (15% off) and put money in my FSA! i gotta go back to make sure my right eye is okay...but if that's fine, then i'm gonna go through w/the surgery.

has anyone here done it before? i'm not really worried about it or anything, just wanted some firsthand input.

An old friend of mine had LASIK done like 4 years ago, no problems yet. He loves it.

I'm planning on lasik, but waiting for my eyes to completely mature. Don't want any vision changes after I drop that kinda cash on fixing them. Plus I've heard its normally better to wait til after 25-26ish to get it done.

Where did you go for your consultation?

i think my prescription has stayed the same for the last 6 years or so, so i think i'm okay. at least i hope! i have the same concern about the age thing...but i feel like if i don't do it now, i wont really have another chance for about 3 years or more. i guess it's probably more important to make sure your eyes are fine than to do it early, but it seems like it's okay. i went to lasikplus in schaumburg...free consultation if you go, otherwise it's $25.

He said he doesn't have any problems with anything at all. He told me in the beginning, which was like 10 years ago or so, when LASIK first came out there were some problems with halos, etc...but as technology became more advanced they eliminated all the problems they were having with it.

He also said when he first got them done...it felt so odd for him to get out of bed in the middle of the night to go take a pisss and not have to worry about his glasses. But no matter what, he told me he loved it since he never had to worried about his eyes ever again.

GET EM DONE KEV!

I used to work for a company that owned 5-6 laser centers and did practice management for 75 or so practices across the Midwest. I had my Lasik done about 6 years ago and my daytime vision is fine, but my night vision is crap. I have halos that are terrible. I have learned to live with it, but it is definatly a problem.

I had a similar perscription to the one you describe.

I know many people who have been nothing but happy, but if I knew my results would be like this, I would have kept the glasses.

My advice is to get 1-2 MORE consultations from different doctors. They typically give free consoltations for people seeking lasik. Then make a decision. Your vision is a HUGE thing to risk with the wrong doctor.

Can't agree any more to that. Out of your 5 senses, sight is the most important, IMO.
