Mugenized Temp

I run the Mugen ECU on my car here in the UK with the CAI, Manifold and Exhaust, plus cooling mods. Oh and the car has been DeCat too.
Let me start with the bad points, it MUST be run on a high octane fuel else you will need to use an additive to the mix. The knocking sensor has been disabled so you could cause some damage if your fuel octane is low. The immobiliser within the ECU has been disabled as well as the secondary O2 sensor (plugs in the cat). The emissions on this car are horrendous, even if I put the cat back it will not pass emissions standards here. It is designed to run without a cat and is specifically for track. oh and fuel economy is poor, I will get 180 UK Miles out of a tank compared to 240 with a stock ECU.
Now the good points, I stuck back the stock ECU back on the car for a run as we were going up to Scotland, out of sheer laziness I left it on for a month and got quit use to the cars handling and fuel economy. Anyway whilst waiting for the missus to pick up a vacuum cleaner I stuck the N1 back, she got in the car and we set off into traffic as normal. All seemed the same in traffic with no obvious differences, then we got into the national speed limit
I had been stuck behind an idiot that had pulled out in front of me three miles ago, and now and I got my opportunity to pass. The car responded almost instantaneously and shot through the revs like a bat out of hell with me grinning and screaming simultaneously leaving w@nk Futt in a cloud of monoxide fumes. SO I carried on with my new toy for a few more miles more around the twisters enjoying its sound and responsiveness. Missus by now is feeling nausias so back to traffic. Car is pretty warm by now and it has had its lungs filled, back to another joy with the N1, pops and farts around town with a more raspy sound reminding you what you have under there and what you have just done.
I cannot guarantee this is the best thing you should do to your car especially with only low octane fuels available, it will drive the engine harder with surprisingly little increase in peak BHP. But it will give your more BHP in the working rev range which my butt dyno says is awesome, it also opened up the opertunities for other mods such as racing cams and increased fuel pressure.

I've used my N1 for years. I've consistently gotten better gas mileage with my N1 vs. my stock ECU. On the highway, I'm getting close to 50 miles more per 10 to 11 gallon fill-up. On city road only driving, I'm getting about 10 miles more to each fill up
I normally used to run the trip odometer to 240 miles with the stock, and 250-260 on the trip odometer with the N1. On highway only, I get the trip odometer to 300 miles easy without the gas light coming on.
I also only run 93 octane in my tank, which is widely available where I live.
As for the immobilizer....am I the only one that has figured out how to put the immobilizer back to use using the N1?
I have, by the way....took me a good 3 months to figure that one out two summers ago.
I do very little motorway driving so your comments sound very positive, will give it a go on our next long trip with the N1 and keep the driving light footed.
TBH the immoboliser is not a great issue as the UK spec cars have two, so insurance is fine.
Octane wise, I run the car on Shell V-Power which is quoted as 99 octane here. Not sure how that translated to yours over the pond

hmmm, any more US guys that run 92-93 on this ecu? jus want to make sure there are no problems, also would like to here some other insights as well. thanks for the comments so far guys!
I've ran the Mugen ECU on 93 octane for the last 2 years without any problems. We only get 93 octane premium in TX. No problems with passing emissions for last 2 years. My fuel mileage suffered initially, but over the years has normalized back to the fuel mileage before I swapped ECUs.

now to just find one for a decent price!

they are gains but don't expect a lot.

Works well with header & cooling mods (t-stat, rad cap, fan switch).

I know that the mugen setup isnt for peak power, i acutually plan on losing peak power. i have already got the high peak power numbers, i want a better driving feel now, more low/midrange power. mugen is the best at that.
Pricewise: look in the FS section. That's where I got mine

The Mugen ECU will help tremendously with everyday driving. Midpower range has a significantly noticeable increase. The car will run as if it's always cold. I'm not sure if you'll notice much difference since you love up in PacNW, but in TX where it's hot and humid, the car runs strong as if it's 50 degrees. Best of all, no heat bog! Make sure to get the Mugen cooling mods and the Mugen or Ricks header to make it work properly.

Hey all,
I have to say this is easily my favorite thread I have come accross since I began frequenting S2ki.com. Anyhow, I don't have much in the way of Mugen, yet, aside from a keychain and the license plate bolts
I have big plans to remedy this however - Mugen GP wheels are next up and I was planning on the gun-metal finish which I believe will look quite nice on a black S. Has anyone seen such a setup - I would love to see a few pics! Also, I hadn't planned on lowering the car any because I feel the S is low enough and don't want to sweat every time I go over a bump or pull into a driveway - what do you guys think?
Thanks!
J
