It is pronounced Brid (short i sound like in the word lip) not Br-eye-d

It is pronounced with a short i not a long i. Although everyone pronounces it with a long i.

Not sure why yours is/was different. I've installed two 3 piece spoilers on MY02's (recently and 3+ years ago) and both needed an 00-01 brake light. Did you actually install it yourself and know this for sure? or did you have a body shop install it?
