agree with dave...example - richest man in the world (bill gates) = college drop out (granted, that college was harvard). example 2 - friends of mine who have their master's degrees and are overqualified for jobs and have little to no work experience.

being in school doesn't really pay off. That's a myth spread by the evil empire that is the university beaucracy. Once you graduate from college you aren't really "educated" in most cases you just have a very specialized training that will allow to to become middle class. People think a college degree guarantees you a job, maybe it does. But is that guaranteed job really going to help you make it? I think it will just trap you. It will lull you into complacency. You will be happy with your 9-5 making maybe 20k over the poverty line, just enough to buy a car, and maybe a house. A degree won't ever really be enough to get you ahead. <sorry end rant>

yes, but it a degree is a piece of paper that says "I am a trained monkey, I can do what I'm told". This can be the difference between living paycheck to paycheck, or retiring early.

fo sho, i went to school for architecture. But when i got out i learned that its completely different than real life. I don't think it would be same for medical degrees cuz they have residency programs to get you involved. I have a friend who graduated at the same time i did, he works like crazy but still gets paid less than 12 bucks an hour. That's sucks!
