I have taken out 10K in student loans w/ Bank of America. You can defer payment with them until you graduate. I would avoid those TV ad things and go with a legitimate bank if I were you. They get fishy with their interest rates, etc. and tend to try and adjust them a lot.

Are you not able to qualify for any gov't loans? Un sub and subsidized will get you the best rates.

Also if you own a home you may be able to take out equity from your house(the rate will probably be decent). If you are going for private loans then the rates are going to be fairly high. And if you're only going to defer for 6 months, then it wouldnt make too much of a difference.

Shop your local banks first, then look at legitamate private lenders.

Those tv ads are the worst way to go with some of the worst interest rates. almost any private lender should allow you to defer payment until your wife graduates. You probably will still accrue interest during that time though, unlike govt loans.
