Time heals and now I can talk about it.

Two weeks ago I woke up to find three wheels stolen off the Honda fit. One wheel they broke the lug nut and couldn't get the wheel off. I promptly got on the phone with the local PD and my insurance. Initially I was just gonna get some used wheels put on and avoid insurance claim. But with the broken lug and being the middle of winter outside, I figure to just have insurance take care of it. The tow truck was gonna get the car later in the evening. 2 hours after I got off the phone with insurance and one hour after patinum left my apartment, I get a call from my sister....my dad is no more. She found him unresponsive in his bed when she went to his apartment. I call my mom and brother and we scramble to travel to Denver where my dad lived. Everything costs a billion dollars when you need it last minute. Can you imagine how much plane tickets are for 6 people at the last hour? A Lot! Thanks to garrison, kai, and other friends who are not on this forum for the help finding a rental car. We drove all night non stop to get to Denver the next morning. I had left a spare key with the Honda for the tow company.
All week we prepped for his funeral. Heartbreaking to walk into your dads one room apartment and see the dishes he had his last meal in. He had Thursday marked on his wall calender. What it was for, we will never know. What we do know is that the following Friday he was to take his citizenship test and everyone agreed that with how hard he studied, he was gonna ace it. He was just 5 days shy of reaching a status most of my relatives strive for. All week I had no more then 5 hours of sleep per night. On Friday the day before we were planning to head back to chicago kai started coughing. Then I remembered that the kids had a doctor's appointment sat at noon. That forced us to head home sooner then planned. Friday was also the last day of ceremonies. Leaving Denver after the last ceremony left me just enough time to get to the doctors office straight from Denver. While in Denver, insurance called and said my car is ready for pick up on sat. So right after the doctor appointment, I drop my mom and brother off at their house and I head straight to the progressive to get my car. I finally get home in the evening. Still mourning the lost of my dad, I couldn't even watch the super bowl. As I head out to run some errands , the TPMS light comes on and my remote key fob doesn't work. Only the spare key I left for the tow company works. I didn't take notice when I picked up the car but I left only one key with the car. When I picked it up, there were 2 keys. On Monday I call insurance about the issues and schedule to bring it back the following week.
My boss calls me in early for work on Monday. For my week absence, he got really backed up on work. He told me if I wanted I can put in as much OT as I wanted to make up the hours. So all week I been putting in ten hour days. All this week kai hasnt been sleeping well due to the cough. And when your kid doesn't sleep through the night, you don't sleep through the night. So for the 2nd week in a row I Havnt had a full nights sleep.
These past two weeks have been the longest, saddest, and toughest weeks of my life. But I won't ask that it be over with. I won't ask that the heartache end or the rough nights end. I'm just gonna deal with it. There's no complaining. Because thats how my dads life was. It was full of hardship and tough battles. He fought through it all. Just as he taught me to stand tall and be proud of my self. I will work hard as he did. I will do what is required to support my family and I will be proud of it.

Damn, Phong, that's the worst 2 weeks I've ever heard of. I hope things turn around soon.

Always sorry to hear when friends have to go through a rough patch, but for someone who's always so happy and full of positive energy like you Phong, it's particularly painful. I really hope that this is as tough as it gets and that things start turning around soon. Sending good vibes in you and your family's direction -- hope you can spend your time with happy memories. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Now the rest of the house is coughing (reason why we didn't attend the birthday bash).Kai has a doctor's appointment tomorrow with a possible ear infection. It scares me every time I hear my 4 month old daughter coughing with a throat full of flem.
