Got a problematic engine? Buy this one!

The Civic Type R has been a pain in enthusiasts ribs to get their hands on so with this new offering of the turbocharged K20C1 motor a la carte you can at least get your mitts on part of it. For the first time domestically through the Honda Performance Development Racing Line program will have the product for $6519.87 before tax and shipping fees.

I don't think a CVT could handle that kind of power

With this offering, Honda will be allowing us to buy a factory fresh engine straight from the assembly line to stash into whatever build you may have. In the past, iterations of the Type R engines were offered only in Europe and Asia while fans in the states were left out in the cold. The I4 puts out 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque that should be mated to a six-speed transmission.

Time to start a racing team

Unfortunately, the engine is only for sale as a "racing only" application for "verified, closed-course racing applications," which translates to on on-road antics. To add a bit more salt to that is that the engine isn't for sale to everyone as of yet and is just for racers who are members of the Honda Racing Line program

Reliability is priceless

With that bitter pill out of the way, the engine is still a great source of performance and fun for track fans. For those of you who race amateur and professionally this motor will give you not just a great basis to mod from but also will bring reliability which is priceless when you are punishing your car. The added benefit of Honda Racing Line being involved in the project is that owners will get something akin to factory support in order to cut out having to do your own research work.

Hopefully street use won't be too far off

The first of many K20C1 engine swaps was this off-road Civic Si that popped up at SEMA. To get your hands on the engine you'll need to follow the link on slide 3 and apply for a membership with Honda. Once, you're in you'll be given "the most direct access" to all of the parts in the performance division's inventory.
