Iconic Ford

For those unfamiliar with the MK2 Ford Cortina, the tiny city car made a name for itself back in the '60s for its successful presence in Group 2 Touring Car Racing as well as Rally racing. And if the motorsport association wasn't enough to turn the Cortina into an iconic model, the limited-edition Lotus versions certainly sealed the deal.

The Lotus Version

Between 1966 and 1970, Ford and Lotus embarked on a join project to create a super-cool road-legal iteration of the Cortina. Ford would provide the Cortina chassis, and Lotus would fit them with their 1.6-liter twin-cam motor and transmission, while also tuning the suspension to give the Cortina coupe all the handling capability it needed.

F20C Heart

But what makes this particular 1965 Cortina noteworthy is what it houses under the hood. This iconic Ford coupe is powered by the iconic Honda engine of the iconic S2000! We're sure we don't need to list the accolades of the F20C. But let's just say the 9,000 RPM rev limit and the 250 horsepower are very appropriate characteristics for the Cortina.

9,000 RPM

The Bring A Trailer listing for this MK2 Cortina also mentions that the 6-speed manual transmission from the Honda S2000 is used for the build. Not only that, the car also comes with a spare transmission! And to make the presence of an S2000 powertrain and drivetrain known from the interior, the 9,000 RPM tachometer is in use as well.

Go-Fast Goodies

On the inside, the Cortina has quite a bit of a racecar feel, with the sporty Recaro seat and the roll cage. Other than the presence of a passenger seat, it looks to be mostly stripped-down for weight saving. During the process of the build, the rear diff was replaced with a narrowed unit from the Mazda RX7. A custom four-link rear suspension is also in place with coilovers, and a rack and pinion steering system help with the handling duties.

Fully Documented Build

The BaT auction ended earlier today, with the final bid of $30,250. In addition to the car and the spare transmission, the new owner will also receive thorough documentation of every step of the project from 1996 all the way up to 2020. And we're sure they're going to enjoy every second of driving this track-ready Cortina.
