Classic Nash Metropolitan Gets Massive F20C Upgrade
We're betting this tiny drop-top is a hoot to drive.
Classic Ride, Modern Power
F20C and F22C1 swaps are all the rage these days, with Honda's iconic high-revving inline-fours finding their way into everything from BMWs to Jeeps to Volkswagen Beetles in recent years. But this might just be the first time we've seen an S2000 powerplant under the hood of a Nash Metropolitan, the tiny little drop-top sports car produced decades ago. Now, this wild creation is up for sale over Hemmings for the cool asking price of $75,000.

Long-time Custom
This 1961 Nash Metropolitan was first customized way back in the 1980s when it was fitted with an MGB-based Austin engine with a Datsun carburetor, Datsun seats, rear fender flares, and 14-inch wheels. As the years went by, it started to deteriorate, however, and was in non-running condition when the next owner acquired it in the 1990s.

Many Amenities
The seller and his friend spent considerable time and effort getting the classic roadster back on the road, a process that began back in 2003. That included installing a brand new interior from Go Miata with power windows, mirrors, and antenna, cruise control, leather seats, and Vintage Air A/C.

Honda Power
Pop the hood, and you'll find Honda's legendary F20C powerplant, which is mated to the automaker's six-speed manual transmission. Power flows to the rear wheels via a 1989 Toyota Supra limited-slip rear end fitted with 4:30 gears.

Chopped and Modified
Underneath, the tiny Nash features a full tube frame, while the body itself has been lengthened by 10 inches. The custom-fabricated fender flares and everything else on the outside are covered in multiple coats of Mercedes Silver for a super clean look.

Underneath
The front suspension in this Nash is a Ford Mustang II unit with tubular A-arms and QA-1 coilers at all four corners, S.S. Brake Corporation front brakes with 4-piston calipers and 13-inch ventilated discs, 11-inch rear brakes, a custom driveshaft, and Flaming River quick steer Mustang rack and pinion steering.

Icing on the Cake
Altogether, this classic Metropolitan sure looks like a fun cruiser with brisk performance, given the fact that it weighs basically nothing. It's also a cool, vintage ride that's sure to attract attention everywhere it goes. The fact that it features S2000 power, well, that's just icing on the proverbial cake.
