Ducks Garden Transformed NSX Into a Ferrari Concept

The original NSX was often compared to Ferrari, so one Japanese outfit decided to take that comparison one step further.

One Step Further

When the NSX originally debuted, it drew many comparisons to exotic cars like Ferrari. It was essentially a reliable supercar on a budget, one with incredible styling and a mid-engine layout. Regardless, a Japanese company called Ducks Garden decided to take that idea to the next level and transform the exterior of a first-gen NSX into something that looked even more Ferrari-like, and the result was this - the Squalo Azzurro.

Award Winning

In Japan, it's really nothing new to re-body a car to make it look like something much more expensive or exotic, but using an early NSX as a base is certainly not something you see every day. Mainly because these cars are quite valuable and desirable these days. However, this particular NSX was built for the 2011 Tokyo Auto Salon, where it actually won an Excellence Award in the custom car category.

Blue Shark

Squalo Azzuro, interestingly enough, is Italian for "Blue Shark." Which we suppose makes sense. There isn't a ton of information out there on this build, but from what we can gather, it's essentially what it looks like - a re-bodied NSX with the original drivetrain intact, save for a new exhaust and some suspension tweaks.

Decade Long Dream

Ducks Garden says that its designers dreamed up this idea for a full decade before actually going through with it. And clearly, this was no simple undertaking. Designing and then making a brand new body for an existing car certainly isn't easy, but in this case, it's worth asking why anyone would bother.

Finding Inspiration

The front end of the car draws obvious influence from the Ferrari F430, which preceded the build by a few years. The rear end, on the other hand, is quite unique. It's also quite a bit more abrupt than the original NSX, to the point where the Blue Shark is a full 8 inches shorter overall.

Only Choice

Apparently, Ducks Garden wanted to enact its design on a mid-engine Japanese sports car of some kind, and landed on the NSX as its "only choice." They admit that this process wasn't an inexpensive one, which is no surprise. But we wonder just how many people would actually be willing to follow suit and swap out their NSX's body.

Prime Opportunity

For those that actually think this thing looks way better than a stock NSX, there's good news - Ducks Garden actually sells the body as a kit for the price of 4,620,000 yen, or $43,457 USD at current exchange rates. Whether or not people will be lining up to convert their original NSXs into a Ferrari lookalike or not, well, that's a different story.
