Legit Art

Everybody wants to reinvent the S2000 these days, and virtually every week, we see an artist coming up with new renderings of what that modernized drop-top sports car might look like. The latest comes to us from none other than David Beasley, who just so happens to be the principal designer at McLaren. This obviously makes these drawings legit, even if they aren't necessarily intended to be a "new" S2000.

Finding Inspiration

Beasley found inspiration for his cool little car from the '90s Honda Beat and proceeded to imagine what a modernized version might look like rolling on the new electrified Honda e platform. Then, he mashed those ideas up with the styling of the RA272 race car, which makes this a truly interesting little machine.

Race Inspired

The resulting "kei" electric roadster is something that we personally think is pretty awesome looking. And it's somewhat of a fun, race-inspired version of the S660, a car that many Americans have coveted in recent years. The S660, of course, was Honda's replacement for the Beat as well.

Pen to Paper

What's even more amazing is that Beasley came up with these renderings in just 30 minutes. But we imagine that he was just sitting around the house when the idea struck him, and next thing you know, he was putting the proverbial pen to paper to make it a reality.

Long Resume

But then again, Beasley is quite experienced with this kind of thing. He's been a McLaren principal designer for about a year and a half now, and was previously the lead designer at Nissan Design Europe's London center. On top of that, he was also responsible for some other compact sports cars like the incredibly cool IDx concepts.

Desirable Machine

While we'd love to see this little electric roadster go into production, like always, it's obviously a long shot. But we imagine that it would sell quite well at least in Japan, where tiny quirky cars have long been all the rage. And who wouldn't want to own a small, enjoyable sports car co-developed by Honda and McLaren?
