SEAT Designer Draws Up An S2000 Successor

We've seen all kinds of "new" S2000 renderings, but this one was actually done by a real automotive designer.

Another One

The S2000 is obviously a beloved automotive model, one that's spawned countless rumors of a comeback as well as numerous renderings of what a new version might look like. The latest comes to us from artist David Artola, who just so happens to be an automotive CGI and components designer for SEAT, the Spanish automobile manufacturer.

From the Future

Artola calls his creation the "S2000 Restomod," which is an interesting choice. On the outside at least, this car looks a lot different than a real S2000, so perhaps he's imagining a future in which people will treat Honda's drop-top much like we do cars from the '60s and '70s these days.

Different, Yet Similar

Despite its radically unique design, these renderings certainly retain the S2000's original character, and it's instantly recognizable as such. The lines, however, are very much modern, with sharper edges, a full length rear taillight bar, and a large rear diffuser, all of which are things we see a lot of on modern vehicles.

Electrified?

Interestingly enough, while there are clearly defined sections where a pair of exhaust tips might typically go, there doesn't appear to be anything there. Thus, it's possible that these renders are intended to depict another electric S2000, something that we've seen a lot of in recent years as well.

Interesting Design

Another interesting design element are those tiny little pieces sticking out from the front fenders. Apparently, since this car has no side-mirrors, these must be small cameras that provide the driver with digital images of what's beside/behind them.

Style Mix

Otherwise, we get a little bit of a Porsche Boxster vibe from the rear view of this S2000 render. Not that this is a bad thing, of course. From a distance, the front end certainly looks like an S2000, but the sides are much more stylized than the original.

Design Exercise

It's an interesting exercise for sure, especially considering the fact that these renderings came from a real-deal car designer. But as always, it gives us little hope that we'll ever see a new version of the car. But at least we can buy new parts for the old ones, right?
