K-Swapped

Honda's F20C and F22C1 powerplants from the S2000 are two of the more iconic engines in the history of engines, lumps that have not only captured the fascination of enthusiasts across the globe, but also their fair share of accolades. Regardless, some folks like to do things a bit differently, and that includes the people behind the Gears and Gasoline YouTube channel, who recently swapped a high-revving K20 in their own S2000.

Unique Build

This S2000 used to belong to Jackie Ding, a pretty well-known figure in the JDM scene, and it started out life as a pretty nice street driver. However, the new owner has quickly transformed it into a high-revving beast of a machine with a fully-forged K20A2 fitted with a K20Z3 head and individual throttle bodies (ITB) that make it truly unique.

Hitting the Dyno

In this particular video, we get to see the fairly fresh build nearly completed - at least in terms of its mechanicals. The goal on this particular day is to hit the dyno and start sorting out the new powertrain, with the obvious goal of extracting as much power as possible from the rather exotic and pricey setup.

Disappointing Results

Having ITBs on a car may be an expensive proposition, but the results, well, they speak for themselves. Revving to a sky-high 10,000 rpm, this K20 sounds the part, and the crew has big expectations for its output as well. However, that isn't the case on this particular day, as the new engine lays down a mere 214 horsepower on the dyno - less than the styock powerplant.

Working Together

The team credits this disappointing result to the fact that, well, there's still a lot of sorting out that needs to be done. Aside from simple tuning, Gears and Gasoline also has to ensure that all of these brand new parts are working together harmoniously, as is the case with any project.

Promising Start

For now, the new owner is just happy to see his car running, a feeling that most of us can relate to after spending many frustrating hours with our own builds. Now, we can look forward to much, much more - and we have a strong feeling that this new build won't disappoint when it's finally sorted out.
