1. Built for the Street and the Track

When Ron Celestine of SpeedHunters.com caught a glimpse of Kurumadoh Custom Factory’s AP1 at a recent RevSpeed meet up, he had to know more. He first saw the Honda blasting around the Tsukuba Circuit, but as he would come to find out, this isn't just some purpose built track car. The small Japanese tuning shop made the five hour trip from Iwate to see what the street legal ride would do in a proper time attack.

2. Exterior Mods

You can't blame Ron for thinking this AP1 was a track only car because it sure looks purpose built on the outside. Much of the exterior mods center on improving downforce and aero so that the car can maintain proper handling while making runs. The S2000's stock body lines have been treated to an enhancement from a carbon fiber front lip, hood, fender flares, a GT wing, and canards. The wheels are lightweight forged 18" Volk Racing CE28SLs wrapped in 295/30R18 Yokohama Advan tires.

3. Powertrain Details

The beast that powers this track monster is a stroked out F20C 2.2-liter, with, as you guessed it, a host of upgrades. They include Toda Racing A2 camshafts and the proverbial cherry on top - an HKS GTS7040 supercharger. With a pulley swap, the motor puts out around 400 horsepower to the wheels. KCF built their own custom limited-slip differential to ensure that power gets to the pavement properly.

4. Interior

Because this is an actual street car, you can still find all the creature comforts that you know and love from a stock S2000 but with some added extras. Much of the original Honda stuff remains, but KCF has added essential track items like a Cusco roll cage, Recaro seats, aftermarket gauges, and a Momo MOD 08 steering wheel. The original carpet and interior trim are still intact as well.

5. Lap Times

With a fresh tune, KCF set out on the track and laid down a respectable 1:01.869 at the Tsukuba Circuit, racing in the Fast Class. Not too shabby for a car you can comfortably drive long distances with no issues.
