Miata Charm

The Mazda MX-5 AKA Miata, has forever captured hearts with its unrivaled handling and charm. Its engines, on the other hand, have never truly stolen the spotlight. However, one bold owner took matters into their own hands, unleashing a surge of exhilaration by performing a heart transplant from a mighty Honda, as documented in this very Italian Youtube video!

F20C Transplant

Enter the realm of Engine Swap Depot, where Ludovico Gonella's creation emerges. This build casts aside the lackluster engine of the NC MX-5, embracing a 2.0-liter F20C, the powerhouse engine renowned for its prowess in the iconic Honda S2000. But hold on tight, because it gets even better! With a touch of Gonella's magic, this engine has been bestowed with a valve kit, superior injectors, and a stainless steel exhaust. The factory output stood at an impressive 234 horsepower, but Gonella's modifications have surely unleashed a handful of extra untamed stallions.

Supporting Cast

To support this awesome swap, a larger radiator and a custom driveshaft have been integrated, pairing the S2000's six-speed transmission with the Mazda rear end. The car sits on Tein coilovers and a set of 17-inch Skoda WRC wheels, amplifying its presence on the road. With the tremendous power under the hood, an upgrade is needed to the braking system as well. That means the addition of Brembo four-piston calipers and robust rotors at all four corners.

Ready For Track Day

The build comes fully equipped for high-performance track action, featuring Sparco seating, a robust five-point safety harness system, an extensive eight-point roll cage, and a strikingly sizable aerodynamic wing affixed to the rear.

Bare Bones Machine

The F20C is not a common choice for engine swaps, despite its exceptional qualities. Swappers more often opt for the newer Honda K20 and K24 engines, which are more easily obtainable and can generate similar power with fewer complications than the F20.
