Super Cool Honda Beat Would Make the Perfect Daily
With S2000 prices skyrocketing, the Beat provides a cheaper alternative in a fun little package.
Pennies on the Dollar
Honda fans around the globe are already likely familiar with the Beat, a funky little Japanese kei car that packs a ton of fun in a tiny package. And in a world where the S2000 and NSX have exploded in value, the Beat can still be found for pennies on the dollar, providing plenty of mid-engine induced smiles for little money. Case in point - this very nice 1991 Honda Beat, which recently sold at Bring a Trailer for a reasonable $12k.

Respray
This particular Beat was imported to the U.S. back in 2018 and is finished in Festival Red with a black soft top with a zip-out rear window. It has been repainted after some rust repair was completed, so it's by no means a mint survivor, but it looks no worse for wear today.

Rolling Stock
The tiny Beat rolls on a set of staggered 13-inch front and 14-inch rear Enkei wheels wrapped with 165/60 rear Bridgestone Ecopia PZ-XC tires, and it has four-wheel disc brakes to slow the whole thing down. Throw in the car's light weight and mid-engine layout, and it's undoubtedly a hoot to drive.

Funky Upholstery
Peek inside, and you'll find equally funky and fitting zebra-print upholstery, along with some amenities including air conditioning, electric windows, a Gathers cassette stereo, and an emergency road flare that's mounted in the passenger footwell.

Contrasting Colors
The instrumentation follows this theme by offering both black and white gauges, which provides a nice bit of contrast to the funky seats and floor mats. The odometer shows roughly 42k kilometers, or around 26k miles, while the tach goes up to a lofty 8,500 rpm.

Optimum Fun
The tiny Beat is powered by an equally tiny 656cc E07A inline-three cylinder engine producing a modest 63 horsepower and 44 pound-feet of torque, but it also essentially weighs nothing. It's backed up by a five-speed manual transmission for optimum fun, which sends power to the rear wheels.

Solid Value
One thing's for sure - it's hard to find a car as cool, unique, and fun as this very nice Honda Beat. Kei cars will likely remain a novelty in the U.S., which is great news for anyone looking to buy an enjoyable little drop-top like this for little money.
