Unique Restoration

YouTube is full of cool builds and projects, as well as some pretty frightening ones as well. But rarely do we ever seen anyone tackling the restoration of something like the classic Honda S600. However, that's exactly what Baron Conor Merrigan is doing at the moment, and he's documenting the entire process on his channel right now.

Unique Build

What makes this project even more unique is the fact that there simply aren't many S600s still floating around. Only around 13,000 were made, to begin with, and we're sure that quite a few of those are long gone by now. Making this project even more interesting is the fact that Merrigan lives in Australia, and he's both a drifting enthusiast and machinist by trade.

Motorcycle Car

As Merrigan is keen to point out, the S600 is a truly amazing car that is every bit as cool today as it was back then. This was a car born out of a motorcycle company's desire to build an automobile, which is why it's essentially powered by a motorcycle engine - a water-cooled, 606cc four-cylinder mill that produces only 57 horsepower, but at a sky-high 9,500 rpm.

High Revver

However, many say that these little engines are actually capable of revving as high as 11,000 rpm, which is truly insane for a road car. The little twin-cam four-banger also features four side-draft carbs and a needle-roller camshaft, as well as hemispherical combustion chambers, which are things that truly set it apart from your average engine.

Innovative Setup

Weighing in at just around 1,500 pounds, not a whole lot of power is needed to move the S600 around, but it's pretty close to its redline at around 90 mph. That's because Honda reduced the rear gearing to help get the car's 57 horsepower to the ground, and the S600 utilizes an innovative chain drive system that results in very little drivetrain loss during that transition.

Refreshing Change

So far, Merrigan has gotten a few things done to his S600, including fixing the car's horn and its seized brake drums. That may sound somewhat boring to folks that are used to seeing all sorts of dumb antics on YouTube, but it's rather refreshing in our opinion.

Worth the Watch

The fact that Merrigan is working on one of the coolest cars in history (in our humble opinion) doesn't hurt, either. So be sure and head over here to stay tuned for future updates, because we're certain they'll be worth the watch.
