Default Idling Issues

Good day to all,

I'm having idling issues with my S2k, idling drops off when I gear down at a stop sign or red light,

No engine light comes on yet, but once the engine warms up, it seems to idle better.

Engine runs strong other than at idle,,,

Once I clutch in and the idle drops, the engine stalls out, then it takes a few push on the start button to get it running again,

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

2005,,, please elaborate on IACV??

One of my buddies is a mechanic and he's thinking there's an air leak somewhere at the intake,,

Here's a DIY on how to clean the IACV. It commonly gets clogged with gunk and you have to clean it out. I did mine and everything runs smoothly now. Below is the URL

I have the same issue. I took my intake piping off and found one of my vacuum lines that goes to the mini box that's bolted on front engine brace cut must of got cough up in something. Took it for test drive seems fine now just a bit rough idle might have to clean iacv.

***Update***

Still having major idling issues,

In the last few weeks I have done the following;

- Changed plugs
- Cleaned IACV and throttle body
- Reset and relearned system

The following codes were cleared on Friday

- PO 172 - System Rich
- PO 420 - Cat System
- PO 301 - Mis Fire
- PO 302 - Mis Fire
- PO 303 - Mis Fire

After performing the above work on Friday, the car ran much better for about 48 hrs, then the idling issues came back and the engine light came back on (have not verifided codes yet,

This morning car stalled out again when clutching in at a red light.

Any other suggestions??

Thanks in advance

Well my guess would be the misfire is the cause. Is your exhaust system blocked up somehow? The misfire could be the valves too, it could either need new valves or just a valve adjustment. The system is running rich, could also be the cat.

Thanks FluKy,

I guess it's a process of elimination at this point,,,

My understanding is that the cat has a 10 yr warranty, altough not sure if it was transferable or applicable to cars imported from the US (mine is from California)

Car only had 140,000km, so I would be surprised if it neede new valves although adjustments are probably in order.

Once the car gets going, it runs fine,, no hesitation.

Any suggestions on garages here in the Mississauga/Oakville area that I could trust for this?
