Default Comptech Icebox Intake AFE 24-55505 will not fit! HELP!

Hey guys,

I need a little advice. Its time to replace the air filter on my comptech icebox intake. It came with the car when I purchased it a few years back but it was missing the comptech airbox that comes with the intake and the air filter is a mac air filter (I dont even think its the right size filter). Should I buy an AFE 24-55505, AFE 24-55507, or the stock sponge-like filter + airbox? I'm looking for something that is low maintenance and will give me the best performance. Also if there is another air filter that can fit the Comptech Icebox Intake, please let me know! Thanks!

I would recommend an afe pro-dry s filter. You should be able to get them in the same size as the 5r filter. The pro-dry s is a dryflow- which means no oil. So there is no way to over oil the filter. I run an aem dryflow on my S and an afe pro-dry s on my Tacoma and i have no complaints about either. They are easier to clean too.

So your intake is just the tube- no box or cover? That is odd.

haha yeah, it's just the intake without the airbox. I was in a bit of a rush to order the air filter and also had to do 2-day shipping. I went ahead and ordered the AFE 24-55505 Pro 5 R. I hope it fits well. Any idea on how many miles I can drive until I have to clean and re-oil the filter again? I mostly do city driving and barely see the highway.

I'd get the box and filter. That way you have the complete intake and it will look right.

I've run into a fairly big issue......the AFE 24-55505 air filter came in, but it is not the right size for my intake. By that, I mean the air filter is much larger than I expected. Since I don't have the airbox that comes with the comptech icebox intake, I believe it's missing a "lid" or "extender" piece that attaches to the end of the intake before the airbox. I pulled this image off google, you can sort of see what I'm talking about:

Any idea on where I can get that missing piece???

EDIT***I think its called an "inlet adapter"?***

Um so you only have the first piece? This would be alot easier if you could take a picture of your intake so we can see what on earth you are talking about.

Yes, you are missing a piece. There should be a large velocity stack kind of thing that goes on the end that greatly increases the width. You need to measure the diameter of the pipe and order a filter to that size (or order a new comptech since you are missing 75% of the intake).

So the previous owner didn't cut the pipe? The end looks a little uneven and jagged. I guess what I'm asking is if the velocity stack thing and the pipe are supposed to be one piece out of the box. Also, can I not just order the velocity stack thing and attach it to the end of the pipe? Then the AFE 24-55505 air filter would probably fit.
