I stitch with heavy outdoor thread, put some tape on the back side and press in clear silicone aquarium sealant, then coat the outside with a thin layer of black Permatex RTV.

If you really, really want to do it right, get this but this will run about $60. I used this for reattaching pulled away portions of a Zodiac inflatable. (Hypalon) You can find it at some marine repair places. Professional stuff. Once you bond with this, it is not about to come apart. This was designed for the kind of poly vinyl chloride our top is in the family of.

I used plio bond adhesive to glue patches on the inside of the wear spots. Lasted for a few years before I eventually replaced the top.

Doesn't work at all? speak for yourself. I've used it for 2 years now to patch a small hole and it's works fine. Same piece currently on for over 9 months, through winter, rain, etc and it's holding up fine. Depends what you're going for though I suppose.. but for a few bucks, it's an easy fix.

I just patched up "the spot" with some 3M spray vinyl adhesive. Wondering if it holds up in 100 degree weather?

My tears are near the roll hoops in the rear corner of the top. Gorilla tape would barely stick to it at all. It almost seemed like it needed a lot of pressure to adhere properly - which just wasn't possible given the flimsy nature of the top and the location of the hole. So this, along with the mild adhesive nature of the glue used on the tape and it just wasn't going to work. For me, the only thing that stood a chance was a very strong, permanent adhesive.

Yea me too but it seems to work well for me. Different cars, different scenarios I guess.. It's not a permanent fix anyway, just a band-aid. I'm lazy

Interesting stuff and I'd like to try on a few small repairs needed. Any input on sources for some small amounts of "top material" for the patches?

Craigslist. Quite often s2k owners that get new tops sell pieces of their old top.
