Default Success!

Thought I would share my experience of remaping/reflashing my Honda S2000. I apologies for the text heavy post.

To start, I had been modding my car for sometime (N/A) with items such as a Intake, Exhaust manifold etc. Wont bore you with a 'shopping' list. However I was fully aware that it would need a reflash/remap with installing so many bolt-on breathing mods, the car tends to run lean and of course without mapping it will never run at optimum anyway. So after doing a bit research I discovered that I could use a Hondata flash pro to remap the ECU. So once ordered I booked in with TDi North as they seem to have good reviews/knowledge and a 150 mile is about as far as I wanted to travel to do so.

Here's the thread: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/109...g-for-a-remap/

It all started off so promisingly arrived at TDi with flash pro, ready to go, but the ECU had other ideas. My ECU was not compatible with Hondata. Despite it being a UK registered car with DBW throttle etc.

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/109...not-supported/

So that was a bit of a kick in the teeth, early start 6 hour round trip for effectively a dyno run as couldn't map ECU. On a positive note the car made 245hp. Which isn't bad for N/A and no map. So the search began for other options.

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/109...uning-options/

In the end I settled for a 'doner' ECU from a 2008 S2000, this obviously meant swapping ECU over and re-coding keys etc, extra cost but still cheaper than the other option of an AEM. This then meant another early start (5am) and 3 hour trip.

To finalize, a month later much frustration and slightly more out of pocket (cost of ECU and associated costs, not to mention V-power etc.) I finally got the tune I was after.

The final results were 257hp (237hp) and 175 ft/ibs torque (153 ft/ibs) but perhaps the best part of all is the lower VTEC 'engagement point' at 3800 rpm so ultimately have more power more of the time. Resulting in less gear changes as don't have to 'down shift' as much to over take. Interestingly this is only at WOT at partial it still doesn't kick in till 6000 so basically motorway cruising car acts the same but then plant foot (in most gears) "Instant VTEC" one drawback is no more "VTEC kicked in Yo!" as it is now more progressive and doesn't 'kick' as much but the extra torque has really transformed the car.

I must say I am very happy with TDis service/knowledge and for putting up from multiple emails from myself couldn't recommend them highly enough!

If you have taken the time to read this I thank you and apologies for the length of the post.

Cheers!

Has only been a couple of days but imagine it will be marginally better when just cruising (outside VTEC) because car has been set up to make the most of mods, however in VTEC probably worse because comes in early. If I had to guess I would say about the same, maybe slightly worse.

Not sure at this stage.

It would be interesting to see the dyno plot to see the benefit in torque/hp from 3800rpm. Love what you have done, shame it was a bit of a ballache to get there!

Unfortunately I am not that technically minded have always struggled uploading photos (I know its embarrassing really) also the fact that the printout is on white paper and consists of a red (hp) and blue (ft/ibs) lines (not the clearest of colours). Basically it means VTEC is more readily available making the car even more drive-able and easier to drive 'spirited' when required. obviously doesn't 'kick' as much but definitely faster and more torque so ultimately more fun.

Going to have to pick your brains then about costs etc..... I love the car but the lack of torque saddens me. If I could keep 240hp but have it with 200-210 torque I'd be happy, but coming from 340lbs Torque to 157 I REALLY MISS IT.

EDIT....Bring it to me this weekend (or wednesday) I'll scan it in for you.
