Whilst I'm not suggesting both should be swapped, your analogy is one of the the loopiest I have read on here.
It dosn't have to "repair itself once fitted" if it ain't broke don't fix it. a caliper isn't like a brake pad or tyres, it works or it dossen't and when it dossen't you change it, unless you want to change it for the sheer fun and enjoyment that gives you to do so.

Glad you found my analogy loopy, it was meant to be.

These look pretty damn reasonable.. any glaringly obvious reason I shouldn't go with them? Part numbers seem to line up with the Brake Engineering ones...

Front Left Brake Caliper To Fit HONDA S2000 (BCA2207)
Front Right Brake Caliper To Fit HONDA S2000 (BCA2207R)
I'm sure they'll be fine.
Hope so, have just purchased. Hopefully a couple more short (~2 mile) journeys won't hurt too much until they arrive.

Let us know how you get on - at that price i'm tempted to get a set and put them away until I need them...

But the point Nott is making is that whilst caliper 1 is seized, the equal opposite, caliper 2 it likely to be exposed to the very same elements that caused caliper 1 to fail; hence the suggestion.

I found your comparison of an inanimate object with a part of the human body unrepresentative of the situation at hand.
Destroying a perfectly functioning foot would be complete madness

Hell, for all I care, the op can swap his feet for calipers and put breeze blocks on his hubs.

I personally wouldn't change both, if you smash up your foot and need it amputated, you wouldn't have the other cut off for good measure would you?
To make the analogy a little more accurate, I'd be having one foot amputated and a prosthetic fitted in its place. If the prosthetic is a different size or shape to the other foot, I'll wind up walking in circles

I'm hoping replacing the brake caliper will be a little less painful.
Maybe we could use suspension struts as another place where things are swapped or possibly tyres. Nice to have equals. We could stretch the human body part into more interesting territory. Testicles? Breasts?

I can see where you are coming from, but brakes are what I class as critical components. Yes, with a coil pack just replace one because if they all fail the worst case you ahve is a car that won't run. If your brakes fail you have a car that won't stop.

I have always replaced calipers in pairs. Of course, you don't have to but you ideally want equal force distributed to either side. And as Chesh says, the opposite caliper has been subjected to the same life as the broken one so why not change now to save you having a feucked up day?

On my Mondeo, I had a brake caliper burst and p1ss out fluid everywhere. Fortunately, I noticed it when walking back to the car. I changed both calipers.

My Westfield had a sticky rear caliper. I changed rear pads, rear discs, and rear calipers.

My S2000 had a stick offside caliper at the rear. Changed both calipers.

As for who should fit them, find a decent local independent garage. Build a rapport and go from there.

There is nothing special about and single bit of the S2000 and your local mechanic will be more than qualified to work on the car.

Thought I should follow this up, so sorry for resurrecting a fortnight-old thread. Calipers arrived quickly, but I wasn't able to get the car booked in until the 30th due to Xmas hols, etc. All fitted now, new brake fluid all round too, plus I had them do the gearbox oil while it was there as it was feeling a little notchy and I couldn't find any paperwork telling me when it had last been done.

All feels great now, plus the mechanic said the calipers were like new - he couldn't quite believe they were recons, so definitely recommending that seller.
