Default Soft Top Group Buy and Install - Go to the New Topic to Reply

New topic: ... https://www.s2ki.com/...wings-mills-md/

Ladies and Gents:
.
There is a dual opportunity here:
  • to participate in the $avings of a soft top group buy;
  • to have a someone who has a history of doing excellent work on soft tops install your new soft top.
You may participate in either one or both of the above. If you only need a top and want to be in on the group buy, OK. If you already purchased your top but want an experienced installer to do the work for you, OK. Just say what your interest is, in your reply to this topic.

Please reply as soon as possible!

The soft top options are shown at topsonline, Honda section: TopsOnline - Honda Choose the year range of your S2000 and look at the various options, including vinyl or cloth, and various colors. For the years 1999 through 2001, there are three tables of options, depending on whether the rear window will be plastic, plain glass, or glass with defrosting. For the years 2002 and onward, all should have glass with defrosting. TopsOnline has said they are willing to offer a group buy on the Robbins tops, so if you choose from the Robbins tops, the group buy prices will be lower than those shown on the web site - no worries about trying to save with the EZ-On.

2poor2mod has a topic on S2KI that shows his work andexperience. Soft Top Replacement (by 2poor2mod) With enough participation, it will be worth his time to travel to southern Maryland (or close by in the region) to install tops on several cars. If you contact 2poor2mod by personal message or via the information below, he will be able to provide some further pricing information.

As the time is almost here, we need to settle some of the details quickly.

Please look over the following weekend dates. Add the dates that are acceptable for your participation into your reply, and state the likelihood of your participation. If the likelihood of your participation is not the same for each date acceptable to you, please provide a different likelihood answer by each acceptable date.
  • March 21 or 22 ... March 28 or 29 ... April 4 or 5 ... April 11 or 12 ... April 18 or 19
Even if you have already done so in a previous thread (so that we are planning based on more recent information), If you have interest in a soft top purchase, please say the year of the car the replacement top needs to fit, and the type of top you wish to purchase (material, color, window details if applicable).

Although I have a driveway available in the middle of Calvert County, we would like to find a covered or enclosed location for the work to be done, in case of inclement weather. If you know of a location as far north as Annapolis/Bowie/Odenton, or as far south as the Leonardtown/Lexington area, or somewhere between where the work can be done while protected from the weather, please let us know in your reply ASAP.

Other notes:
  • Especially if you’re expecting a tax refund, file electronically ASAP and get your refund in time to help pay for your soft top replacement.
  • If you’ve got any special adaptations in your S that will need to be addressed when the work is being done, please be prepared or take care of it. Example: some people have specialty bolts holding their seats in place; the special socket to remove the bolt would be very helpful! (Don't drive with your seats loosened!)
Earlier comments from Jeremy (2poor2mod):
  • I can make most any dates work as long as i have advance notice to plan things out. I would need a minimum 3 tops, but can accommodate as many as 5-6 in a 2 day weekend with some sleep mixed in somewhere. If interest grows I can accommodate more, I would just need to plan ahead for a 3 day trip.
  • As far as tops go, I much prefer the Robbins over the EZ On.The name is quite deceiving and is anything but easy when it comes to installing, at least they were when I had installed a few a couple of years back. The Robbins top in either cloth or vinyl will make any owner as happy asif it were an OEM top. Their customer service is pretty great too.
  • As far as materials for your group to purchase, [you need] just the top from www.topsonline.com. New straps are included with the top so noneed to get the Modifry ones, unless you want spares in the future.
  • As info: the OE top from Honda is vinyl, but the cloth is a"richer" material that has a deeper, darker black to it. It does require a bit more maintenance, but if you don't keep your car outside all of the time I'd consider the cloth over the vinyl. Just my $.02.
  • Typically [a cloth top, compared to a vinyl top, needs] just more routine cleaning and application of products such as RaggTopp. If you're already regularly cleaning and conditioning your top, then owning a cloth top will be no different than owning a car with vinyl. The one item I would be cautious about staining the top would be tree sap, but I would assume that most S2000 owners would park as far away from pine trees as possible.
  • I have heard back from topsonline.com and they are willing to support a group buy of the Robbins tops. I have the preliminary pricing back, but I'm working to see if we can get the deal to be a little "sweeter" for all of you. Once I have the final numbers, I'll leteveryone know.
If you have any questions, please shoot me an email, text, or PM.

All of the above info is correct and summarizes the prior thread pretty well. Thanks for taking the time to do this Dave.

In order to get the tops in time for the install, we'll need to tighten up the details, starting with interested parties. Below is a list of people who've expressed interest in the prior thread.

1.Wdtd -100% interest – Robbins Vinyl – possibility of purchasing a second top just in case
2.Roflcopter
3.Nandska
4.S4Speed – already has top purchased
5.Dwb993 – 50% interest – Robbins Vinyl
6.Smds2k – XX% Interest – Robbins black cloth
7.MSTSH80
8.Fangtastic – 50% interest - Robbins Cloth

I'm at 100% interest. I can make any of the proposed dates work.

How much of a discount would we be getting if we did the group buy?

There are at least a couple options for 2002+, and even more options for 1999 to 2001 (similar to 2002+ but also adding window choices), so this is just an approximation:

If several people participate, the discount will be similar to purchasing a Robbins Premium for an EZ-On price (some variance to this depending on the specific top you choose).

If no one is coming forward with a sheltered location, I will contact a local self-storage place, see if they'll rent a 20' deep garage unit for a weekend, maybe with power. Normally they would only rent by the month, but it won't hurt to ask. If you have a self-store place near you, please check with them as well.

If you know some of those who are on the list of interested persons in Jeremy's posting above, and you don't see them responding in this topic, please make the effort to ask them to post in this topic about their current level of interest, and help select a date!

The sooner we know date(s) and location, the better!

Once we have a few more people who speak up about the group buy part, we’ll send in the initial group of names, and then people can start group buy ordering. I'm guessing that once the group buy begins, ordering can take place over several days. We may be able to add the name of someone who comes late to the party, but I'm not certain of this.

I'd be willing to buy an 02-09 Robbin Top in the group buy if I could order within a months time or so.

I approve of Jeremy (2poor2mod) to complete your install. He is very fast and pays attention to detail. I was his 1st custom color soft top install customer! Nice and tight like a tiger no rattle or leaks Robins FTW! Your car will come back much cleaner as he vacuums out the car while the seats and tray are uninstalled.

If anyone needs their taxes done please let me know I have a Tax preparation company that beats the competition!
