Great story Bill. Years of reading Road & Track have clearly been absorbed and carried over into a supurbly written piece. Thanks from those of us who could not make the weekend and have no writting skill, spelling skill, or proper punctuation skill.

I don't know if the contest is still running, but if ever there was a "Post of the Month" this is it.

Bill,
What an amazing read. I am sure it took a lot of energy, time and emotion to put your thoughts to paper in the context of Dean's passing. I remember what that was like when I was writing about Maury a few years ago and I wanted to thank you for making that effort. Well done sir!

Bill and Jim, thank you for following me down the Pedantic Rabbit Hole. (Although, Bill, it looks like you may have been the first one in.) I expected mockery in response to my post but instead received a grammar lesson. All I know is what the nuns taught me back at St. Michael's. And if it's good enough for the penguins, it's good enough for me. But as you said, Jim, to each his own.*

Mike, you are correct. I've seen it both ways and normally I don't care, but this was something special and it was the title of the piece so I actually spent some time looking into it. From the on-line sources I listed, I got the distinct feeling that 's was correct in this circumstance, but Jim recital of a rule governed by number of syllables and singular version may well control.
