Default So where's the bottom.

With very little technical basis I'll go out on a limb and predict the market will eventually bottom at 8901.
Basically that is the market bottom of 2003 ( 7740) plus 15%.
The next stop would be 8657 derived off of the 2002 lows.

then again maybe today's low at 9124 was it.

Well, today's low is down a little over 35% from the all time high -- and this is just about what's happened to my house (which we bought at the peak of the market here). And we're told that the house-resale market here is starting back up (slowly).

So maybe, if this is all tied together somehow, today's low is the bottom. Surely it's low enough that the bargains out there will attract buyers, even from abroad. HPH

I don't think we'll see the bottom before the election at the earliest. The slide will probably (hopefully) slow and we'll see some up days.

I'm trying to ignore it. Haven't looked at my portfolio in awhile and don't plan to anytime soon!

not to make it political but will your quarterly 401K statements hit before the election?

that may be the next shoe to drop.

We don't usually see the bottom until the real investors are finished shuffling their funds and are ready to buy on the cheap, and the amateur investors - who are left holding the bag - have sufficiently panicked to stabilize share prices. I would feel a whole lot better regarding the bottom, if the bond market was showing some favorable gain improvements from all the recent buying.

Christ Almighty !! Paulson opens his mouth and the market drops 350 points. Dow was up 150 points and by the time he finished it was in
negative territory.
