Default AP1 ECU with AP2 motor

Can I put a 2.2 Liter bottom end on my motor and still use my stock AP1 ECU? Still planning on using my AP1 head with the bottom end.
Thanks

I believe so. I don't think there is enough difference in the head to make the AP1 ECU any less workable.

That said, why would you want to? Don't you already have a standalone ECU?

The AP1 ECU has ignition and fuel tables for a 2l engine. An 2.2 litre engine breathes 10% more air. I would say the engine is running 10% more lean. Correct?

do not use the 02 ecu. If you going to do it you must use an 00-01 ecu which runs much more rich. Honda leaned out the 02-03 ecu's. You will run VERY lean with an 2.2 block.

The shell I bought is an 01 with the ECU with it. So thats perfect, then right? I am only using the 2.2 bottom end and still using an AP1 head.

if your thinking the ap1 head is better for 9k you'd be mistaken. The ap2 head has better valve spring retainers more apt for 9k duties.

Its the 2.2 shortblock which cannot take 9k all day. Too much side piston loads will cause cyl wall wear. I would not rev past 8600.

Not worried about revving to 9k. Will stay under 8K. My AP1 head has been upgraded to all AP2 parts (except camshafts) anyway. Just making sure the AP2 bottom end and AP1 head will work with an 01 ECU.
