Default 2011 Nasa TT/PT Hardtop rule

I was gonna buy a cheap mugen style top:

>> Hardtop must be OEM/OEM option or OEM/OEM option shape and size only, an a rear window. (ie., lightweight ok, but no tops with non-OEM aero features).

only other thing I see is street tires +2

Does a Mugen style top really provide more of an aerodynamic advantage over an oem top? I can see the Spoon top being an advantage if you have a gt wing due to the gradual rake, but the Mugen top seems pretty close to oem, aerodynamically.

I would think the Mugen top / replica is considered an oem option shape and size. You should email the TT director.

Hmm... that's a PIA of a new rule! I guess we'll see what the TT director has to say about it. As the rule is written, I would say a Mugen top would not comply and need to take the +2. However, it might be possible to lobby to make the Mugen top an exception. I suppose it depends on what the intent was when writing that rule... and only one person knows the answer to that question.
