this is the 3" Mid, i made a ring out of 3" ABS tube. it didnt fit perfectly so i spaced it up with white strips of styrene plastic till the speaker fit snug.

so i decided to put the amps in the flat tire well, the McIntosh amp is sitting on top of the board and the JL amp is mounted underneath the board. for the sub ill be fiber glassing a side firing sub, here i got the MDF Ring cut out. for the distribution block, im still deciding but the divot behind the gas tank looks perfect.

here i got the sub area masked off with 3M blue painters tape, after that you can apply a mold release such as PVA. instead i chose to spray a general purpose adhesive onto the masking tape and applied a 0.7mm LDPE(plastic drop cloth) as a barrier. honestly i shouldve used aluminum foil, it wouldve been easier to conform to all the surfaces but i went with LDPE because i could apply in layer with no seams.

after its been masked off you can go ahead and murder somebody hahaha j/k this is the first layer of fiber glass. i added red dye to the resin for better visability to avoid unwanted drips. for the first layer im using woven fiber glass mat, second layer with be baltic mat and third with chopped mat.

for those thinking about fiber glassing your own sub enclosure, this is your best friend especially for the over hang areas.

mini update, finished layering up the fiberglass shell and trimmed.

here it is with the sub positioned to fire towards the cabin and away from the trunk lid and mounted the mdf ring. next up im gonna apply a stretch to shape the front of the enclosure and a few more layers of fiberglass.

yeah thats what i figure since the trunk lid is so light. which is why i decided to aim the sub in that direction, to help alleviate some of the rattling but i will be dynamatting the ttunk lid.

McIntosh, classy! I think you'll find if you get rid of the rear tray, spare and paneling that the lid will rattle less. I didn't treat mine and it's fine unless I really push the subs near max capacity. Removing those items will give you usable output too. I can't imagine you hear much of the subsonics this way with the sub virtually separated from the cabin.

originally i was planning to go with a P800PRS, Focal KRX2 with my Audison VRX4.300 but i stumbled upon a killer deal on the McIntosh and the P99RS just came onto the market. anyways ill probably have make adjustments along the way, worse cast scenario i can get rid of the spare tire and make a new enclosure to channel the sub directly into the cabin similar to yours except itll be sealed.
