McIntosh, classy! I think you'll find if you get rid of the rear tray, spare and paneling that the lid will rattle less. I didn't treat mine and it's fine unless I really push the subs near max capacity. Removing those items will give you usable output too. I can't imagine you hear much of the subsonics this way with the sub virtually separated from the cabin.

If you sound deaden the triangles in on the deck, and the truck release hatch, as well as the try itself, you'll find it does rattle at all. If you have haven't already do the rest of the trunk as well and the back of the license plate.
I have all of those things done and I have exactly zero rattles.
