Excellent write up!
I just got done doing this last weekend, its much much easier than it sounds once you get everything opened up.

The highlighted notes are very important! When removing the heatshield for the battery, make sure to only loosen the bolt closest to the firewall. I spent forever trying to get that stupid thing back in. Also make sure to remove the 19mm socket and wrench from the crank. ALMOST forgot to do that, was buttoning the spark plug cover up and saw it.

Thanks for all the excellent and detailed write ups Rob, I've been a fan of your site for quite awhile. Tons of great information there.

Thanks for posting. I plan to do this myself sometime, and think I can actually do it! Pretty scary!

This must be an AP1 though...it looks backwards to me!

Yes it's an AP1, can tell by the rubber grommet for the PCV valve.

I just did my valves last weekend. The car runs and idles infinitely better, no more stumbling rpms when coming to a stop, a lot more torque on the low cam at all throttle positions and the high cam revving is much quieter, but i can't say there's a power increase there.

Oh btw, might want to mention, if you aren't using that valve adjustment tool, and you felt like doing it the hard way, taking off the fuel injector harness all the way from the map sensor over through the fuel rail to the firewall REALLY helps get it out the way.

Also now is a really good time to give your valve cover a nice cleaning

Great write-up! Thanks very much for taking the time to write this, and your other how-to's. I've actually learned a lot from your site even before I got my S2000 (very recently), specifically your article on corner balancing.

Possible typo: Did you mean to say set TDC for cylinder #3 instead of #4 in the line below? I figured it might spare someone some confusion.

"When you've double checked the 4 gaps on cylinder #1 you can turn the crankshaft 180 degrees (cams turn 90 degrees) to set TDC for cylinder #4 (see below)."
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

I've been thinking of doing this adjustment. Maybe next month when I have time.

What tool combo did you use to loosen the rear bolt for the heat shield? I tried and gave up and just did the valve adjustment with it in place.

I was getting misfire codes p0300 p0301 and p0303, since the car is under warranty, I took it to Honda and they said valves need adjusting. Then I find this article, I could have saved $240. Its OK though, hopefully its covered. If not, then the next time ill do it myself. Good Job posting this. This is my first and only Honda I have ever owned. Just another motor I need to learn.

That sounds odd to me. Car is under warranty but they charge to to fix it?
