Default s2k mapped on Apexi Neo

Well for the past couple of weeks ive been ummin and arrin wether to purchase an apexi neo after matt (saint_matt) had told me he was going to get his mapped by AJ to get a bit more out of his breathing mods. Managed to get one delivered on friday along with a decat and blueflame exhaust, matt then sorted me out with a Tegiwa intake (amazing piece of kit for the price, much better than the K&N i had on before, pulls so much harder)

We set off for the north about lunchtime yesterday and got to Teg Sports rollers (dyno dynamics) for half past 2, promptly greeted by AJ (s2konroids) and Graham (Gbduo). Gbduos car had already been on the rollers by this point as he had managed to arrive earlier and was having an emanage mapped, due to afew complications power wasnt what he expected but made a good gain from pre mapping !

Matt was next on and made a healthy number pre map and an increase of roughyl 10 bhp, im sure he will add to this with his mods and exact figures!

Last but not least mine made it on the rollers, starting figure was 224 bhp with a nasty dip in the midrange, after a few tweaks i ended up with 238.5 bhp and a very smoothe power curve that feels like a completely different car on the road! I was very impressed with the resulsts and it picks up A LOT better now

I personally would recommend a neo/vafc to anyone wanting a smoother power delivery with a nice increase across the range for what is great value for money !!

Many thanks to S2konroids and tegsport and also thanks to saint_matt for sorting the Tegiwa intake and being my personal mechanic

Yeh that Tegiwa intake is pretty amazing gotta be said!

I have pretty much the same mods as Saint_Matt and my max power figure was 232bhp and came in with 212bhp, so I was massively down from the get go. We are not completely sure why but ideas floating around are compression, valve clearances and dodgy spark plugs. If anyone else has any ideas then I would be interested to hear them!

The car engine mods are:-

K&N FIPK
Decat
Amuse Dual Ti (w/mid box removed)
PLM Manifold

I think the only difference between mine and Matt's car is the intake, mine is K&N and his is Tegiwa. But we measured the intake temps and they were pretty similar. I also can't believe the intake is worth like 20bhp, so it must be something else/as well.

But even though I was down on power, the Gemu still managed to extract 20bhp more on breathing mods alone, I just need to find the rest of the escaped ponies and we should be cooking on gas!

Cheers AJ,

Graham

Is the Tegiwa intake a copy of the Mugen intake?

First of all, many many many thanks for posting up the video on how you do the valve adjustments on YouTube! I just followed your guide and although most of them were OK anyway, without I could not have done it, so you are a absolute ledge for doing that!!

And secondly, found my problem! I had put in 1 step colder plugs (NGK Iridium still) before tuning the car as I thought it would need it being a tuned engine but turns out the engine didn't as I put the OE spec NGK Iridium plugs from Matt @ Tegiwa as I was in the area and they had them in stock ( ) and just taken the car out and f@#k me has the car got a bit more poke now! To be honest, I am not sure it is 20bhp more poke but it is definitely smoother and running sweet with the valve clearances and the plugs changed over.

Oh and for anyone who needs to know in the future and is reading this, the compression results of the engine were 250psi on all 4 cylinders. Don't take the pressure too seriously because all gauges will read differently, but they were all exactly the same in pressure which is the important bit if you ever test! I tested with all the plugs out and spun the engine over on WOT.

So as I say, huge thanks to you Ron, and also if you are running basic breathing mods, you don't need to worry about colder plugs!!

Cheers,

Graham

Good to meet you guys, it was a damn hot day 26c when the neo's were getting done and 30/31c for Gbduo's - the cars were getting heavily heat soaked when i was monitoring the AFR's/IAT's so it took a few normal non power runs to get them to cool down a bit! 40+c intake temps are hot when hardly sitting around.

In my unbiased opinion the tegiwa intakes look pretty good design for power coupled with a front mouth intake it should do well, its pretty damn similar to a mugen intake.

Pretty good results all round the GEMU managed to extract more than the neo's and made power just about everywhere in some instances low to mid 20 bhp!. As predicted a standalone make a little more than a GEMU, and a GEMU a little more than a neo.

The neo's made good power too for the price I liked the lightweight flywheels too rev's a lot quicker

These car's really have the vtec set a bit too high too from the factory.

I'm sure the graphs when uploaded will paint a thousands words.

Good to hear Graham, sometimes plugs get fouled up too easily when not the correct heat rating, (without going into jargon) its basically boils down to heat dissipation and flame front.

A general rule of thumb is you can can't feel anything less than 10BHP with the amount of torque these engines make.

So it definelty feels perkier?
