Default Catalytic Converter

Hello, I've had a customer on mine (I work at a Honda Dealership in the States) ask a question on using a AP1 cata converter on a AP2 (06'). He said this is a typical tuning done in Japan on AP2. I've kinda heard about it but not totaly sure. Can you help me out.
Thanks Scott

I have never heard of swapping cats for tuning. I doubt there are any differences between the cats. If there were, people would have to swap OEM cats for their JCI every 2 years for very negligible gains. I don't see S2000 owners doing that here because of the high prices of these cars here. If they were looking for gains with a cat swap they would just pay the $$$ for a quality high flow IMO.

My USDM AP2 just passed its Japan importation emissions test with the USDM AP2 cat this week which leads me to further believe that there are no differences.

There was a Japanese magazine that tested different cats. Iirc, it did indicate that the AP1 cats were freer flowing than the AP2 cats. There's a post somewhere on S2ki where someone translated the article. I don't remember the name of the magazine, but I think I have a copy somewhere in my house. If you read Japanese I can see if I can find it and scan it in.
