Star gazing is definitely on my list. Most years they have done one along the Cherohala Skyway, I guess the higher up the better view for stars. Not sure what is the best date , I know Darcy and I discussed a night drive on Thursday evening, but Friday is good too and I don't mind doing more than one. Saturday is good depending on how much people plan on drinking at the banquet and bourbon drinking event. I'm down to doing this and I am flexible on the date.

Adnan, I will be staying in the Lodge, not sure of the room number yet but I am on the first floor. Darcy will be in a cabin, without cel phone use it makes it harder to track people down, maybe we can meet in the parking lot out front the lodge ?

I could lead one...let me study the map and logistics to see when and where. If I don't lead one, I'd love to be in this drive so any other volunteers please post!

I've never been on one of these drives, but as the name suggests you likely want to be higher up in elevation in case you actually get a clear sky night for viewing. I'd say a straight shot up towards Tellico Plains via the Skyway, pick some spots to stop, then back track down the Skyway, unless someone else has some experience to share. Maybe Darcy can share his info as he's done some of these before .

I've never been on one of these drives, but as the name suggests you likely want to be higher up in elevation in case you actually get a clear sky night for viewing. You all might want to go to the Rock the Dragon 2017 Facebook page and contact Andy Feger. He's led the stargazing drive a couple of times. He doesn't come here any more but you can contact him on FaceBook.
