Default S2000s Sweeps TimeAttack.com RWD Mod/Street Class!

Hey guys,

Stinkytofu (Tim K.) and I just came back from a successful Time Attack event hosted by Redline Time Attack. The event was a dedicated to time attack with two morning practice sessions and two time attack sessions consisting of 3 hot laps each.

Cars were classified based on tire type and were divided into AWD, RWD, FWD subdivisions.

Rules for Unlimited Class Cars:
-Lexan/Plexiglass windows permitted
Use of DOT Legal tires with UTQG tread wear less than 50 permitted for Unlimited Class.

Rules for Modified Class Cars:
- Must be registered and legal for use on public roadways
-Teams are permitted to use DOT Approved tires with UTQG tread wear ratings of 50 and above. Tires with less than a UTQG rating of 50 are not permitted in Modified Class.

Rules for Street Class Cars:
- Must be registered and legal for use on public roadways
- All Street Class vehicles must use DOT street tires with a UTQG tread wear rating of no less than 140

The event was held at California Speedway in the following course format:

I competed in the Modified RWD class in my 180points S2ki Challenge car and Stinkytofu competed in the Street RWD class.

AND THE RESULTS ARE....

I was able to take 1st in Modified RWD class with a time of 1:14.109 fending off a 450whp+ turbo charged 350Z and some track prepped RX8 / 240SX SR20DET.

Tim K. (Stinkytofu) took first in Street RWD class fending off a wide body turbo charged MR-S and highly modified 350Z. Tim won the street class which means he was able to beat cars in AWD class (evo, sti's) and FWD class as well!

So this means... S2000s Sweep Street & Modified RWD!

I would like to send my appreciation to Ben @ AJ-Racing for his support with T1R products for this time attack event. Its not often where a shop supports a nonprofessional driver but Ben was kind enough to understand my goals and believe in the street / weekend track drivers that many S2000 owners are.

In terms of modification, Tim and I have pretty much an identical cars in as we are both running Tein Super Racing Dampers and Non Staggered Volk CE28Ns. I was using Nitto NT01 R compounds in 245/45/17 size and Tim was using 255/40/17 Falken Azenis. I believe its a great example of a well prepared MOD/PROD class S2ki challenge S2000s. Having similar setup actually helped both of us as we were able to make adjustments to Tims cars in terms of alignment, shock valving and tire temperatures from my past experiences. Maybe, I should start calling this setup a "Spec. Maxrev or Maxrev Spec."

The competition in Tim's class was fairly fierce as the Turbo charged MR-S was screaming down the straights and pulling fast lap times. I decided to lend Tim my trunk as we needed every single seconds out of his driving. We even though about swapping my Recaro SPG's for Tim's last time attack session to shed more weight from the car. With the help of Blanka98 (Nick) who came to help us, we were able to swap the trunk quickly as my time attack session was right after Tims. Thank you Nick for the wrenching.

Raymond was also present at the event but had to call his day short as his RA1s were cording. I know how you feel Raymond. I drove 4 hours to a track event and my tires corded after only two sessions.

I am also very proud of my friend Tim. We have only known each other for about four months but he has been absorbing everything that I know at a alarmingly quick rate. After each track event, Tim and I would chat on-line on reviewing GPS Datalogger information and Video comparison that we both gathered from the track. He is young and has the potential to become a very fast driver. Honestly, I learn a few tricks from him as well but don't tell him that.

I was also very happy to see my consistancy in the times during the two time attack sessions. I tend to perform really well under pressure.

Time Variance in the 1st Time Attack: 0.013 seconds
Time Variance in the 2st Time Attack: 0.011 seconds

In terms of event organization, this time attack event was absolutely the best public track event that I went to. Since the event was focused solely on time attack events, it was exciting to watch Tuners and Privateers race together.

Anyway, thank you to all the supporters and friends who came out to watch us race. I hope we make the S2000 community proud.

I will have a full write-up on my web page tonight but work is calling me. In the mean time, enjoy these photos:

Thanks for another great write up, Rob . I was extremely shocked that i beat the MR-S and all the AWD guys. After seeing the MR-S run on the track during practice session and his time attack runs, i really thought he had me beat. The MR-S looked fast on corner exits and straights. In addition, the AWD guys were kind of picking on me on the pre-grid of my last time attack session. They tried scaring me with their fabricated laptimes, saying that they should all grid before me so i wouldn't get in their way for their hot laps. In the end, the S2K pulled through. Some may call it luck, but i like to call it VTEC baby . I'll have more input on this later .
