Alignment for dd/track car HELP!!!!
#21
Let me back up zdan and junky, your alignment by itself is not the cause of your handling issues. Maybe, and I mean maybe a little more rear toe may help. But I think it has something to do with tires or the geometry issues with lowering and balljoint correction.

i was thinking the cause could be bumpsteer at high speeds. but it could be the pitch of the road. it fells fine and responsive in turns. i guess all i can do is try a new alignment today and see how it goes. at 100 mph it starts to feel unstable. so possibly camber in the front might help it also stiitng in the car during alignment might help correct it. I will try new specs and report back later tonight.

ya the tires only have about 500 miles on them. they are sumitomo htr a/s po2 Ultra High Performance All-Season they have good reviews but i should of just got summer tires since i live in florida.

Sounds like it could be a tramlining issue. Is this particular to a freeway condition that is worn with some level of wear groves? The car will pull from side to side as you ride these groves. If you have soft sidewall tires, this can be a real white knuckle experience as the rear end can start to sway and feel like it could come around on you just making simple lane changes. Ive had this experience with budget Toyo Proxis tires before I knew better. Sport alinement generally will exacerbate tramlining. Having your front to rear camber more balanced though should help predictability some. But it wont make up for inferior constructed tires and appropriate air pressure.

For sure *never* go to a place just to get a generic "alignment". Stock alignment specs are a WIDE range and are NOT optimal anyway. Too much rear toe and too little camber... Also 99% of time they will take your money and do little/nothing...
Seriously though, the only time my AP1 was ever unstable in a straight line was when I had too much rear toe-in (like 0.64 degrees plus). Never any stability issues with reasonable rear toe-in, for me, ~0.15 - 0.20 degrees total, but your 0.26 degrees total IMO should be totes fine.

I loved the RE71Rs on my FD, but destroyed the rears at a single track day. Cornered great but could not put the power down out of 2nd gear corners (550hp...).
Probably the grippiest street tires out at the moment, but probably also the shortest lived if that's an issue...
Others you might consider:
Hankook RS4
Dunlop ZII StarSpec
etc.
