rear brake pads-can i grind off the nub?
As you all know, pads for the OE rear caliper setup have a nub on the backing plate for the inner pad. Since I have rear ducts, my rears wear unevenly and I'd like to be able to rotate the inner and outer pad. So my question is, is there any reason why I can't (or shouldn't) grind down the little bump on the backing plate of the inner pad so that it can be used on the outer side? I suppose an alternative would be to drill out a hole on the shims for the outer (if I'm picturing things correctly). Guess I'm really wondering is what is the function of the bump. Thanks!

You need the bump to ensure proper operation of the parking brake engagement/release.
It lines up with the vertical slot in the caliper piston to keep the piston from over-rotating and jamming the parking brake or rotating the other way and making your brakes inactive.

This is an interesting question. In the UK the Ferodo DS2500 rear pads now come from the factory without the little nub thing, I emailed Ferodo for confirmation and they said it is ok, you would assume that a company like Ferodo know what they're talking about, I am not sure though so I stuck with my Dixcels.
