Which brings me to my original argument before everyone jumped on me for stating the obvious. If you gave me a GTI and told me to race an S2000, I'd make sure you're either at the bottom of vtak or near an upshift.

Bottom of Vtak, and I have 30whp on you, enough to get a car lead.
Top of Vtak, I can force a shift on your part and like you said, start in a higher gear and let the mid range work for me.

Once @ 100mph, shut down.

I cringe when I hear these stories of racing S2000s to 130. It's just dumb. S2000 people always race THEIR race. The VW people are too stupid to do the same.
When I was NA I raced a newer model Gti from 1st gear. They got a jump of over a car since they just gunned it first. By end of 1st gear I had a car on them and 5+ into 3rd gear.
I also started out of vtec in 1st.

1) A simple set of gears on the S2000 changes all of what you just said about starting points.

2) Once you hit 100mph, you let off?? That's like the end of 3rd gear. lol

3) Are you talking about a completely modded 1.8T making 30 more whp then a STOCK s2000 when it's at the bottom of VTEC?
Also, you're not taking numbers into account after gearing multiplication. Or weight of the vehicle.

4) If he gives you your desired 'low' rolls, then you should do the same for him and allow him his choice of whatever starting point he desired, after. Or you guys could just be men about it and run heads up from a dig.

5) A skilled driver in the S2000 will never start a race out of his powerband. What's the point, or where's the respect in beating a half-ass driver in the first place? There is none.

For basically any different mph starting point you could think of that would be beneficial for your GTI, the s2000 could adjust and find the appropriate gear.

You say 20mph, that's cool with me all day.

25? 30mph? That's cool with me, all day, as I'm sitting in 1st gear meat.

35? Cool, still no problem, as 1st gear would rev out to 45mph or so. Our 'slingshot-like' thrust in 1st gear would jump out on even your tiny, fast spooling turbos low 2nd gear. Just as long as the S2000 had a nice 1-2 shift, we'd have the initial burst of momentum on our side. Soon as we shifted that would swing back in your favor being in the meat of your 2nd compared to us just shifting, however by the time your car could even gain back momentum you would already be shifting, and the s2000 would still have the rest of his meat to go.

40? OK, here's your one shot at your 'torque on tap' being primed starting point. The S2 would more then likely be forced to be in 2nd gear, and VTEC doesn't even turn on until about 44mph, so what do we do? We drive aggressive. We kick the clutch on the 2nd honk and dump the clutch with our rpms around 7500-8k. And it some-what helps band-aid those 5 or 6mph where we won't be making near peak power. I'd agree and say that this is your ONE and only advantage in starting points. Enjoy it.

45? Already in VTEC, again I'd simply drive aggressive. I'm not going to let you get the hit on me in an all motor S2000 that is sitting up nicely in it's rpm's. I don't care how small and responsive your turbo is.

50, 60+mph all advantages to the S2000.

5, 10, 15mph? We could treat it like a launch situation and bring the revs up. You? What's it like not to have a 1st gear with those mods?

Dig? Come on, lets get serious.

Your cars are competing with GTi's (Grocery getters) in a straight line using e-mail tunes.

Hang it up.
