RE71R = Overkill??
#51
I use Z2's every day on the street with my car and quite frankly I wouldn't want anything less than an EP tire on my car.
I'm going with RE71R's this year just to change it up.

Completely agree that stickier tires have more pick up. I believe it is a combination of them all. Pss will pic up rocks and what not, but it doesn't seem to have the angle of attack to hit the bottom of the doors at 215. The cambers do not help me either as they push the bottom put the assembly out.

Speaking of pick up, my friends that drive behind me hate my tire selection. It does throw rather large/heavy rocks, rather high. It's a good way of knowing if the car in front of you has a sticky set of tires

Ive daily'd:
245/40 17 square Ventus V12's -Lasted a year during my rookie autocross year. I really didnt know how performance tires between manufacturers felt but looking back at them, they were a decent, comfortable daily but not very competitive nor particularly sticky.
255 square Z2's- I had these for 10,000 miles over 6 months and 4 autocross events. I heat cycled them out wayyyy before low treadwear (was hoping to drive them until slicks). It felt like driving on glass on course but driving around town felt normal even though there was plenty of tread. I wouldnt get these for daily unless you like spending $800 around every 5 months to remain at the peak of the grip or you had another set of wheels. I imagine the 71r's would probably wear out to 0 tread before heat cycling out but that is dangerous since theyre on the street vs just competition. I bet they would probably last less than 10k daily driving, so depending on your daily mileage, you could be buying these tires over and over sooner than youd like but I dont know your budget or driving habits so that might not mean anything to you.
2 sets of 255 square R-S3 v2's- I love these tires for daily. My last set I got 14k miles out of them over 7 months and their tread lasted as long as the grip did. I started tracking last year and love the performance there vs at autocross where the tires couldnt come up to temp for usefulness as much but even cold they outperform all-weather's. I bought a separate set of wheels Im going to put track dedicated NT01's or RE71's on so I can purchase a tire with a longer lasting tw like the Firehawk Indy 500 when my current daily R-S3's wear out. Theyll still grip but I dont want to spend money buying tires every 6 months for the street when I track. After the switch to track/autocross, I can say that without regularly breaking the law or creating unsafe conditions for others, I cant push daily tires to their limits regularly to see the true nature of a performance street tire like I can at the track. In my opinion RE71R's are overkill and wasted money for daily. Even though Im all about wasting money (why else would I track? lol), 71r's daily with no track/autocross just doesnt do them justice.
I think a quick off the top of my head decent list of grippy daily tires are R-S3's, Firehawk Indy 500, PSS's, BFG Comp2's,
