I had a bit of a scare last year driving on the highway in a rain storm and I'm concerned that I do what I can to reduce the tendency to hydroplane. One thing I will never do again is drive in wet with cruise control on.

+1, but obviously up to a point. As it gets colder, AS will win out (in wet or dry). But since rain means cold, AS winning is more a possibility.

But tread depth is going to matter the most. The reason they say to always put the better tires on back is for stability in the rain. Since we can't rotate front rear, and because our rears wear much faster, the scenario of rears with less tread depth is all too real.

Yeah, never, NEVER!!! use cruise control in the rain with a rwd car...

I think this was also a big factor in my little "experience" last year. I learned a few lessons that night.
