Is the S2000 Really a Good Daily Driver?

Any car can technically be a daily driver, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good one.

Daily This

It goes without saying that more than a few S2Ki forum members daily drive their cars, many in all sorts of weather conditions including snowy winters. Truthfully, any car can be a daily, it just all depends on what one is willing to put up with. Regardless, this particular topic recently popped up at Jalopnik, who had some thoughts on whether or not the S2000 is truly a good daily - not just a car you can drive every day.

Fans, Not Owners

In all fairness, neither of the journalists involved in this discussion actually owns an S2000, though both have tried to buy one in the past, so they're obviously fans of the model. They also lavish the model with praise, calling it "near perfect," a common compliment for the high-revving roadster.

Perfect Driver's Vehicle?

Regardless, they also call the S2000 the "perfect driver's vehicle," thanks to its seating position. Otherwise, there isn't much of a scientific breakdown here - just a couple of guys who love Honda's creation and are yet unable to actually afford one, thanks to surging prices in recent years.

Reliable Ride

Thus, we can also look to the many merits of the S2000 to figure out if it's a solid daily or a car better suited for fair-weather weekend cruising. For starters, this is a fun-to-drive and reliable car, which is obviously a check in the right box. The quality here is typical Honda, which means that it won't leave you with massive repair bills and headaches like some other vehicles we won't mention (cough...BMW).

Specialized Ride

On the flip side, we are talking about a two-seat convertible here that isn't terribly large. This isn't a car that folks with big families can utilize for anything other than taking themselves and one passenger on joy rides. The trunk isn't massive, but then again, this wasn't designed to be a boring family hauler.

Inclement Weather

Then there's the matter of the fact that the S2000 is also a sports car, which is perfectly fine for those of us that live in fair climates and don't get a lot of inclement weather. Obviously, the S2000 can be driven in the snow and some people do it, but it isn't what one might call the first choice for such conditions.

Best In Class

If you do live in a warm weather climate and can take advantage of some top-down cruising year-round, well, the S2000 obviously makes a lot more sense, especially if you don't have a big family. Ultimately, if that's the case, we think the S2000 makes a lot more sense as a daily than most other cars in its class, and more than a few folks tend to agree.
