New Take

We've certainly seen our fair share of modernized S2000 renderings in recent years, which is to be expected for a beloved vehicle that was discontinued, breaking the hearts of many fans in the process. Even if Honda never revives the S2000, there will always be speculation that it will, and of course, renderings from artists who give their take on what that might look like. The latest is this - an interesting updated version of Honda's roadster from The Sketch Monkey, or Marouane Bembli, as he's otherwise known.

Same, But Different?

Bembli - who has taken a shot at redesigning the S2000 before - argues that the model could easily retain its overall shape and proportions, yet come back in today's world, many years after it was discontinued. And that's precisely what he sets out to prove in this video by reshaping just a few things on the car.

Timeless Design

As Bembli notes, the design of the S2000 is certainly timeless, and he believes that it still looks better than 90 percent of the vehicles on the road today, in his opinion. Thus, he isn't out to reinvent the wheel but to merely update the model so that it looks like something that could be spotted on a Honda dealer lot today.

Slight Revisions

To that end, he starts by revising the front fender design with a "cut" that adds a bit of visual interest and also holds a marker light. From there, he moves on to the rear of the car, removing its third brake light and transforming that portion of the S2000 into an integrated spoiler.

Updated Lighting

The biggest change, of course, is to the taillights, which are a bit dated on the original by today's standards. In their place, he adds a set of slimmer LED units that one would expect to see on any newer vehicle, with an upside-down "L" adding a nice look to the rear of the car.

Concept Inspired

In a way, the changes present here were also inspired by the original S2000 concept, which was "ahead of its time," according to Bembli, whereas the production version was a bit more subdued. Of course, that's generally the case with concepts and their production counterparts, most of the time.

Subdued Remake

Throw in a set of larger, more modern wheels, and the end result here actually looks pretty good - and perhaps even more importantly, like a viable design that could make it to production. Unlike many of the wild modernized takes we've seen in recent years, this one is less offensive, and for that reason, we're certainly digging it.
