Rising Tides

It's no secret that S2000 values have been on a steady rise for years now, but the recent boom in the collector car market (coinciding with the explosion of used and new car prices) has taken things to an entirely new level. Case in point - this 123-mile Rio Yellow Pearl Club Racer, which was previously owned by IndyCar driver Graham Rahal, just hammered for an incredible sum of $200,000 over at Bring a Trailer.

Perfect Combo

Aside from the fact that it was owned by a famous race car driver, there are a lot of reasons why this particular S2000 is more special than most, of course. For starters, Honda only built 699 Club Racers in total, and just 140 of those were finished in Rio Yellow Pearl. Throw in the fact that this one has just 123 miles on the clock, and you've got a recipe for a big-money auction.

Essentially New

As one might expect, that means this particular CR is basically brand new, and that much is evident from the photos. There are simply no flaws to note inside or out, and if you didn't know any better, you'd think you were looking at a brand new vehicle that's never been driven at all.

Clean History

Aside from still sporting some protective plastic inside the cabin, this CR was sold with a host of documentation including the window sticker and Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin, and there are zero problems to note from its history, whether that be damage or any sort of missed maintenance item.

Track Focused

As S2000 fans are well aware, the Club Racer was a special machine designed for track use. It came with a host of unique features that make it rather easy to identify, including a removable hardtop, aero upgrades, a rear chassis brace, quicker steering, stiffer springs, and anti-roll bars.

Weight Loss

The Club Racer utilizes the same 2.2-liter F22C1 inline-four as its regular brethren, which produces 237 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. However, it also weighs around 90 pounds lighter, which helps improve both acceleration and handling.

Upward Trajectory

The Club Racer has long been a coveted model among enthusiasts, but in recent years, it has also gained favor with collectors, sending prices to levels that most cannot afford. Thus, it's no surprise that this truly special car raked in massive money at auction, which should only help drive prices higher moving forward.
