Back to Life

Everybody that works on a car already knows what a huge difference a fresh paint job can make. It's quite literally the key to making an old, beat-up vehicle look like brand new. And with the right selection of mods, it can also totally transform the look of a car. Case in point - this amazing Honda S2000, which was brought back to life by the folks behind the YouTube channel Paint Society.

All About That Prep

Paint Society documented the restoration of their S2000 across a series of informational videos, which are quite helpful for anyone considering repainting their car themselves. As you would imagine (or know if you've done it before), this isn't a quick or simple process. It's all about the prep, and there are many hours of that sunk into this project.

Problem Areas

The car was a solid 20 footer prior to going to the body shop, but it had a cheap paint job and many imperfections. That included things like small cracks in the bumpers, but the big job was making the new body parts perfect before painting. Apparently, the complexly shaped hood and fiberglass top were particularly difficult to get right before coating them in a fresh shade of red.

Functional and Beautiful

Despite the fact that the Spoon bodywork cost a significant $12,000, it was still a pain to make it fit the car perfectly. Regardless, the finished product makes all that labor worthwhile, and unlike many other body kits, this one was designed to actually produce downforce, so it's both functional and beautiful at the same time.

More to It

Of course, there's more to this project than just paint. A new suspension fortifies the handling and hunkers this S2000 down over a new set of Spoon wheels and sticky rubber. And the guys threw on a new exhaust to help the F20C breathe more easily, too.

Perfect Example

But most importantly, this video series is a perfect example of why quality paint jobs are so expensive. It's difficult to fathom just how much labor goes into a car like this until you actually see it or do it yourself.

True Standout

In this case, the owner sunk a ton of money into their car, which they probably won't ever get back out of it if they decide to sell. But that isn't the point. What does matter is that they built this S2000 the way they wanted to, and the result of that investment is a car that's both unique and a true standout?
