Hot Topic

Since the advent of the automobile, enthusiasts have long debated a number of hot topics, including, of course, what kind of oil to use. Asking such a question online will inevitably get you panned by those that claim to be experts on the matter, so what's an S2000 owner to do? Well, luckily, this isn't a terribly difficult or complicated decision.

Right Weight?

Whether you own an AP1 S2000 with the F20C or a later AP2 with the F22C, choosing the right weight of oil is pretty simple - 10W-30, across the board. However, there is some leeway there depending on what kind of climate you live in.

Varying Climates

Those that reside in colder climates can go with 5W-30 or 0W-30, while those that live in hotter places can utilize 5W-40 or 10W-40, if they please. Additionally, 0W-30 and 10W-40 provide solid protection against wear and tear, though the same can be said of all oil so long as it's changed appropriately.

Intervals

As far as how much oil to use in the S2000, the precise amount comes in at 5.07 quarts. Honda recommends changing the oil in its popular roadster every 7,500 miles, though severe duty calls for a shorter interval of 3,750 miles - conditions that include extreme heat, long terms of idling or stop-and-go driving, driving on terrain such as mud or mountainous land, and taking short trips in very cold weather.

Which Brand?

Thus, the next question is - which brand of oil should I use in my S2000? As is usually the case, this question will result in many recommendations depending on who you ask, so it can be difficult to narrow down this expansive list and figure out which one to go with. However, there are a few that enthusiasts seem to prefer over most others.

Popular Brands

Those brands include Motul Sport, Pennzoil High Mileage, Mobil 1 Synthetic, Quaker State Synthetic Blend, Castrol GTX, and Redline High Performance, to name just a few. Of course, there are many, many other brands out there that S2Ki members would recommend, too, so it's worth doing a little bit of research before landing on one.
